NV In case you needed proof that you should purchase quality exhaust

I tried to go the route of going to a local shop for exhaust. Tried to get a decent muffler and pre-silencer. Well, recently I've noticed the exhaust has sounded like it was leaking. Finally I got a chance to get under the car an d this is what I see:

This is a magnaflow component. I have only put about 6,000 miles on the ride since the exhaust was put on. So it hasn't really lasted long at all. I'll be investing in a universal RB muffler and pre-silencer again in the future to re-do this stuff. I was really surprised it cracked where it did too; it's not even on the welds. Maybe the heat from welding on the hanger affected it, but I doubt it.

Yupp, I've seen that before. You can also add tri-braces where it's met, no matter who makes the muffler/resonator.
RB makes amzing stuff, but, I still think what you had could've worked.

A flex pipe before the presilencer would've prevented that, or stiff motor mounts.

How are the pacesetter headers compared to RB heads?

But how long would a flex pipe last? I wouldn't think long,

ive seen that before too, i gotta think that that hanger placement is pretty lousy, i had one car where the hanger welded to the muffler skin actually caused the muffler skin to rip and peel open

Sounds like you need a better exhaust shop.... my local guy would re-weld that at no charge.... plus hangar placement is a little lack-luster.

I've never been a big fan of the RB stuff.... too heavy and not a big fan of the sound. Not to mention that I have yet to see any of the REALLY fast guys running RB stuff.

There's a post from HYPER4MANCE on here where he dyno tested a bunch of different headers/exhaust set-ups. The RB's were not the shining beacon of hope that others have likened them to, to say the least.

Are you positive thats a magnaflow? Doesnt really look like it to me...

Ive run magnaflow for years on numerous rotary engines, and theyve always held up amazingly, Mind you I do put a little more effort into hanging them..

Ive split generic mild steel tubing in half and demolished other components of my exhaust, but the magnaflows have never failed me.

Maybe Im just lucky..

FYI, if it is a real magnaflow it should have a lifetime warranty!

Hyper's exhaust is also loud as all hell.

Racing Beat stuff is great provided you know what you're buying. Even Hyper is running an RB universal presilencer now (because he kept killing Magnaflows), and their universal main mufflers are fantastic for the price as well. The problem is the collected header for FBs collects to 2", which is way too small for making any sort of power. If you cut off the collector and make your own, or buy one of the uncollected headers, they do fairly well. That's not to say you couldn't do better with a custom header, of course. Naturally the really fast guys don't run Racing Beat, because they all build their own stuff to their own specifications. But not everyone has the money or knowledge to do that.

The main draw of Racing Beat is that their exhaust systems are way quieter and more mellow-sounding than anything else available as a bolt-on. That's also the reason they're heavy: they use very thick-walled exhaust pipe to reduce noise (it makes a big difference) and increase longevity (which is why they have a tendency to outlast the car they're installed on). They're meant as a street exhaust, after all, not for racing. Even so, I've heard of people getting pretty decent numbers from the "streetport" system.

That said, I'm not a fan of the Racing Beat sound, either. I like something a little more throaty.

no the exhaust hanger. non RB mufflers aren't strong enough to support their own weight AND handle the supersonic exhaust gasses from the engine
