If you want a good amp for a good price, check that out. I have that exact amp in my Alero running the 4 interior speakers and the sub and its amazing. The sound quality is great, lots of options for tuning, built in low pass and high pass filters, and a few other things too. Its a great amp for the price, even if you don't use even half the power.

damn does that ever fit well!
i was planning on doing a carputer for my supra, i figure easiest way to do it was to just rip apart a used laptop and hide it under the dash, using the laptop with battery is also a bonus.

That's a nice screen! Looks like it was made for the car. When you originally described your plans I was worried that the screen would totally overwhelm the interior. Apparently not...
Aside from the screen I don't think you'll have any issues. I've never run into any thermal issues from either hot or cold (I've had a "carputer" since early 1999/late 1998). For a year or so I was worried about the HD so I would never switch the system on first thing in the morning, but really it doesn't matter. Condensation is the only real concern on those days when the interior of the windows just drips...System might be unstable for a few minutes but will start working when it dries out.
Back in the day, I used to Admin that forum. I think I was the first (one of the first anyway) to run a "carputer" in an RX-7.
The best thing you can do is hard mount it to the case. I thought that suspending the HD would help, but I kept killing them. After going through 3 I figured out that the suspension would create an oscillation independent of the motion of the car, causing the heads to slap. After hard mounting the drive it's been fine for the past 7 years.
Also something to watch out for temperatures. In a car environment you can see -30 to lets say 50 degrees celcius. This is when those specs come in really handy. Most of the problems though are in the lower temperatures. Things like HD needs to warm up, the touchscreen crystals need more time to load up, and things like that. In the hotter days, you have to watch out that you're not over heating the processor and screen. Nothing from what I've read really breaks down, but will just not work until warmed up basically.
Just to contribute a good link for this thread"

New Toys: Digital Battery Terminals, kill switch, illuminated keyboard for carputer
Well a few more updates ... don't mind the dirty battery as its been collecting dust in the garage for a while now.
The keyboard was bought locally for about 20$
The terminals were bought off ebay for close to 30$
The kill switch was bought for 4$
The switch is good up to 100 Amps they say

looking good!
I saw some 1 farad caps in a car stereo section of Future Shop yesterday. Some are grotesque fake NOS nitrous bottles, and one's a fake bomb (imagine the fun and laughter that'll ensue when next you're pulled over for something) but most are plain metal cylinders that'll nicely insulate your system from voltage fluctuations, e.g. when you start your car.
er - huh? That's a stock 84-85 center console waterfall with his 7" LCD touchscreen added.

Hmm ... that bomb one might be cool to have ... jsut stick it in the center console, and when i open it to get my "papers" he would see it and shoot me lol .. especially considering my background lol

Reason I ask is it is my experience laptop drives take to starting and stopping better than desktop drives so if you lose power rapidly it wouldn't effect it as much. But that may have changed as such is the way of computers
