Carburetor issues.

I have been trying to decide rather or not to rebuild my carburetor. I know it has to be rebuilt, or replaced, considering replacing cost so much, im thinking i should go with a rebuild. I cant find anyone to rebuild it around here.... and i already have a rebuild kit, so I think I should go ahead and try it, I am not stupid, and although I am no beacon of patience, I do have a little patience, I think I should be able to do it..... If i could find someone to do it for me, i would rather go ahead and go with that... but anyhow. Also, i did get my parts car, Im wondering if it might have a good carb on it... also, is the carb off a 85 12a direct bolt up to the 79 12a?? Thnks guys, i appreciate all tips and feedback!

Vidor is in southeast texas right? If so I know rotary shop is in fort worth...and rx7.com(rotary performance) is in garland. I would try to give them a call and see if you could do some sort of deal to mail your carb in and get it rebuilt if you dont wanna give it a shot. Ive rebuilt one along time ago...but it wasnt all that difficult if i remember. just get a manual and take your time.

RX7 Strangeness

So wednesday my carbeurator just started working... right... i think. It revs to 7 grand it is running good. No dieing, starts easy. Im afraid its going to go back to its old ways tho lol. Which wont be the end of the world. Im working on my exhaust leak while its running good. I pulled my exhaust off the parts car first since they seem to be about 50 times better.... now im under mine, and its solid from manifold to the end of the pipe, no flanges!! :-(. Im afraid to start cutting the damn pipe to put the other exhaust on, incase its not as good as it looks, im seeing a trip to the exhaust shop soon! Im probably going to, the exhaust on it is shot anyways, so if its no good, Ill have to go to the exhaust shop anyways... after that its the brakes and fix the passenger door so that it opens good again, then its off to get it legal :-)

Ok, my brakes are good now :-), have the exhaust half fixed, im going to let a shop put a new muffler on and such. Got a new question before Im done, My headlights have started acting up, The lever you life up to open the headlights and turn them on will not do anything. There is a headlamp light on, on my dashboard, when i turn the headlights on the light goes off but that is it. I can still open the doors by using the button under my radio that only opens the doors but my head lights still dont come on..... whats up with this>? did my head light switch go out?? Also, I changed my fuse box, but this problem was there before, just wanted to brag that i no longer have to use the damn glass fuses :-) the old fuse box was a disaster, everything still works... so if anyone can help me with the headlight thing id appreciate it!

I took the switch off, and knocked on it... and messed with relays and stuff, and the lights finaly just came on, lol now the motor on the passenger side light is coming up reallllll slow, but goes down normal speed, is this most likely the motor or relay or what??? let me know. Thanks alot. K.C.

Glad to hear the headlight motors are functioning at the very least. Try swapping them out to see what the differences is. Maybe you just need a new one??

Ok, i oiled up all the linkage on the headlights.... now its working a hundred times better!! The only thing is like i already said, the plastic bushings in my linkage are worn out and one is completely gone, im sure this doesnt help them work at all. What are the odds in autozone or oriellys carrying them? I still think im going to Get the carb rebuilt, and im going to go to the muffler shop. Im a painter, so ill be painting it! Im thinking im going to paint it Midnight pearl blue metalic. But im not positive.... Ive been looking for wheels as well. I know this is a repetative question but the wheel lug on a 79 sa is 4X110?

this may be a cheap way to fix your headlights:
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/finally-end-our-headlight-bushing-headaches-815386/

and yes the bolt pattern is 4x110.

thanks :-) That looks like a good cheap way to end my headlight winks :-) Whats the largest wheel size that i can buy without modification of the car? Im not wanting 20s or nothing... just think 16s or something would look a little better than the stock 14's....

on another note, i have had a good weekend on it.... my accomplishments
Fixed quite a bit of my exhaust issues, although its not perfect yet....
Fixed my brakes, they are pretty much perfect now!
Changed my fusebox from the glass fuse type, to the plastic fuses from the 85!
Somehow fixed my headlight issue, taking things apart and putting them back together lol. Still need to buy the rubber gromets to replace the plastic bushings...

The car has come a long ways since i got it! Yall have been a great help. Thanks!

my mistake they are 13s i think. I just know they are lil lol. here are some pics, it look like ice is on it, or the paint is bad, but it has been raining today and the water reflected the flash.... not a bad car for 750 dollars, and the parts car was free. So im doing pretty dern good...

Wheel it isn't a matter of how large of wheels you can fit it is more a question of the largest wheels you can find. I've seen a very select few with 17"s and 18"s (as in one or two) but mostly the largest you can find is 15". With our bolt pattern it is very hard to find wheels though.

you know, i saw a dodge pick-up the other day with those wheels, except they were like 17's, and i kinda liked them, so i got on their site and i think i saw 14s (4x110) i was wondering how they would look on a 1st gen, probably kinda tacky, anyone that could photoshop that?

The ATV wheel debate has been covered and it is not doable. They cannot support the load of a car ant are DOT approved. They probably won't hold air on car tires very well either (just a guess). More than likely they aren't balanced to car standards as well. Those wheels are terrrrrrible looking too. People have to get creative with wheels on a FB man, there is going to be no easy way to get good wheels without dropping some coin.

the weight factor was my strong guess, but i saw them on a pick up with low profile tires, that's what made me second guess myself. Maybe they look alike, but they're actually different in some way.

That company says they make wheels for trucks and suv's too, and that these are just the ATV version of the wheel. They wouldn't make 4x110 in the truck wheel because nobody uses 4x110 cept our old cars.

Crossing My Fingers

Well, A kid that works at the body shop I work at said his dad is a mechanic, and rebuilds carbs on the side. I asked him to call his dad and ask what hed charge for a rebuild. I told him i already had a rebuild kit as well.... His dad said 75 or a 100 dollars. I just pray he does a good job. I have the carb off and loaded up in my back seat wrapped in a towel. Im bringing it to the man tomorrow. Wish me luck on this guys rebuild, as i have no feedback on him... just hoping he will do a good job.... kind of stupid, but if it doesnt work out, my parts car has another carb on it, and ill be shipping it off, most likely to sterling! Someone who know what they are doing, and has alot of good rep! Anyhow please wish me luck, as this is my only set back to getting this thing legal!!!
