Carbon Centre Console

Hey Guys,

AJC13B and Myself are looking at doing a carbon fibre centre console for his car, i am going to be making a mould to do the job so i can make some for other people if they turn out well, it will replace this panel

http://www.ajc13b.com/interior-1.jpg

it will replace the panel around the gear shift as well.

now heres a question for everybody........... carbon fiber accesories. The hood is a good example. Why do people buy these mismached hoods that arent the same color as the car. Can't these things be painted?

I've seen way to many honda's that would be blue or red with that carbon fiber hood on there. Personally I think its pretty ugly. Shouldnt the hood match the car??? Sure its a few pounds lighter... but so what?

i agree the hoods are a bit how are you going, i have a glass hood for my 81, it will be painted the same colour as the car.

the carbon centre section is for the looks and it is stronger than the standard plastic console, if yours is broken and dont want a carbon one i can make a glass one in white gel that can be painted to the colour of your trim.

Will it be made to match to Steves car as it is?

As in where his gauges are, or a blank mould and cut holes to suit?

Sounds interesting either way.

Once again... How much?
EDIT: oh sounds a bit strange here... but I always seem to be the one asking this question.

How much carbon do you think it will take?

Oh yeah reminds me! Next week my master copy of a spoiler I'm making will be done, so I should be able to make a casting soon, hopefully it turns great. Just gotta figure out some form for the stands and feet....

Down here they are the same from 81-85, it will be a exact copy of the one in the link i posted, someone said it will be the 81-83us dash, so thats what it will suit, i think it will fit all of them tho.

price will be about $60us plus shipping at a guess, dont hold me to it tho as i havent done one yet and am only guessing on the materials

Manntis,

I thought it was an '81-'83 dash from the headlight and defroster switches... but having that Haltech unit, the extra gauges and the later style shift **** made it kinda iffy.. perhaps he used our earlier style switches? LOL Just wanted to be sure..

Directfreak I have 3 questions. First, those pedal pads. They look like the gas pedal is even with the brake pedal. Ive been looking for a way to do this with my car, any hints? Second, are you gonna use the trim rings from the autometer gauges on the fan and temp control? It looks really odd w/o them, looks fab with them in, makes it look all blended together and factory, very cool. And 3rd, and prolly most important, any pics of that girl in your avatar? Love the painted on top.....hehe

In which picture. In the first set, they were upside down, and kinda just placed there. In the later ones, they were mounted.

If you see the second set, you will already see, I added a trim ring to one of the fan controls. I already have the other Autometer gauge ready to sacrifice itself for the good of the dash.

The panel will be a stock replacement or have requested holes covered up.

With my new dash setup, the gauges are being relocated to the top of the dash (in the centre air con vents) and where the head light switch and rear de-mister switch sit, I am thinking of getting rid of them. But what should I replace them with? I think it will look really bare with nothing in there...anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

I too am very interested... one of the wreckers were gonna charge me $50 for a busted-up second-hand centre console, so $60 to me sounds very reasonable...

Please post the details here of how I can get one when you've sorted out the particulars. TIA
