carb upgrade

i am looking to upgrade from the stock nikki in the near future. i looked at a carb post just below this one but his question was a little different and i didnt want to steal his thread.

anyway, i am running a 12A and im planning on giving it a large street port, and the works, rb exhaust, ignition upgrades, etc. i want to get all the power i can out of it but i still need it to be streetable. i did a search and read about people using holleys, webers, and a few others. i am wondering what is the best for my setup. i will probably be racing my car when its done, maybe some autocross, but mostly drag racing, but keep in mind it needs to be streetable also. what are the advantages/disadvantages of each one? thanks.

i say holley. it's what i plan to use and have worked with on other cars. it's more streetable in my mind. if you go with a weber you may have an odd powerband but top power will be very nice.

id like the top end of the weber but i need it to be streetable...do both throttle valves open at the same time...if not, how hard would it be to rig them to open one after the other to make it more streetable? a couple more questions - what does IDA stand for? and what is the approximate max horsepower that the 48IDA is capable of flowing enough air for in a 12A?

48 IDA works great on the street. It's all in the tuning. Plus, if you want more bottom end you simply put smaller venturis in.

if you want the best "streetable" BOLT ON carb then get the racing beat holley. call them about it, they will explain to you everything that is done to give you the MAX performance and streetablity possible. you only have to do minor adjusting, and i mean minor. they dyno test them and know the best setup and have them all preconfigured. if you dont wanna dish out for that, then get a holley that is around 495cfm. i think they make a model 4160 in that range. you will have some tinkering to do though. by the by, racing beat doesn't just replace stuff on their carbs to make them work right, they actually machine them and port the jet openings and all sorts of great stuff. that's my 50 cents. hahaha
