carb update
i got out there today and i just simply tighten the banjo fittings. leak = stopped AND it cranks and held idle!!! it was kinda lumpy though, so i richened it up a bit and that didnt really help, i gave it the gas a few times to about 7,000rpms in neutral and the first time it was hesitant like it wasnt getting the spark, then after that it sounded NIIIICE! (havent heard my car do that in forever). i check out the float levels while it's doing it's 1300rpm lumpy idle and they are just a bit over half way. not bad though. so i go to do a test run. as soon as i leave the driveway it's freakin great. i didnt run it hard at all. went to 5th doing only 3500rpm shifts. it was great, it didnt buck or anything. ran smooth! problem SOLVED! NOPE!!!! i get down the street and it starts bucking like crazy just like when this allllll first started but i kept it running with the choke all the way out. pulled over, turned off, looked at the floats they were a little under half this now, got in and it cranked right back up but i had to keep it going with the choke. the motor was warm mind you. so i had to drive it back home on the choke! AHHHHHH! it sounded like it was fuel starving again cause if i put my foot on the gas a bit with the choke out it helped just a bit, but too much and it would go to die. WTF! AHHHHHH

I'm starting to think you have an ignition problem. Runs good cold, then gets crappy when hot? When its warmed up and running like ****, get out the damn timing light and start looking at your spark. It could be as simple as a bad plug, or wire, or coil, igniter.

ok ok ok, LOL. i messed with the carb a bit more. had my friend (who finally got here) look at the windows while i was keeping it running with the choke. he said they were pretty much empty. so we messed around some more and now we got it towhere there's TOO MUCH gas in the floats. they're completely full! i am able to keep it going by making the mix completely lean but it obviously wont drive like this. so i guess now i have to reset the floats again!
and carl, i checked out the ignitors first and each plug. everything is firing just fine. one ignitor seemed a little low on the umph so i just switched out to a better one anyways. it didnt change anything. it's definitely a fuel problem. i just dont understand why my floats wouldnt hold the pressure? i tapped around them too to see if they would unstick or what not. sigh. i will get this!

Is your fuel tank venting properly? If your tank isn't breathing, then you can't get consistant fuel flow.

2 things. Is your return line still hooked up? And is the restrictor (little silver thing in the line) still there and facing the right way? Also, how sure are you that your needle valves are good and not fugging up this whole thing?

well, the needles and seats are pretty new, say a month old? when i opened the carb up a coupled days ago they seemed to be working properly. i'm gonna check that valve thing in the return line. i've never messed with it ever so it should be the right way, but it may be clogged.

OH MY GAWD!!!!! i think i found the problem. the mother ****** that rebuilt my carb painted the airhorn to give it a nice "new" look. i never asked him too, and he said it would be fine. well, i open the carb up and look close in to the bowls and there's paint chips EVERYWHERE CLOGGING up that bottom hole!!!! OMFG!!!!!!! so i'm gonna clean it all up and try again. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!

You no doubt have chips in the E-tubes. You'll need compressed air. This is not a "quicky" job, I can tell you right now, so take your time, and do it right!!!!

eye ball it....
make sure that the metal thing is perfectly horizontal with the top of the float..... that center tab is what i play with (between the metal things)
i put on the float and everything, and move the float up until the needle (not the spring and plunger undernieth it..... the needle doesnt move anymore..... and if the top of the float is parallel with the bottom of the air horn, then its set....... if not, adjust that metal tab in the center till the float sits horizontal....
anyways, i hope that helps....
if i were you, tear that carb down and blow all that **** out, and slap it back together.....
besure to write down which number thing goes where....
why in the **** would you paint somthing that gas flows over
guy have too many paint fumes in the morning?

Pretty much what he said. For now, just do that.
Concern yourself more with the perfection when you rebuild the carb or have it done with all new gaskets.

Zac, I'm not trying to cut ya loose, but it sounds to me like you should really start from scratch, here. Just do a simple rebuild with new gaskets, and you should be good to go.
-Hell, you're already quite familiar with the guts of the damn thing! Now just do 'er up the right way.

Who knows what else is fucked up. Tear it all down, inpsect and clean as necessary, then adjust, re-assemble. Then there wont be anymore frickin surprises. And be careful about the check ***** and weights! They are small and easily lost.

lol, yea, i did tear it all apart even beyond just removing the air horn. it has new gaskets in it and i sprayed with pressure thru everything. it's all cleaned out and wiped down. reset the floats and used new needles, seats, and springs i had from another kit. it SHOULD be fine now. LOL. if this doesnt do it. omfg, i'm gonna be so sad. i'll just have to tear it down again. hahahaha.
p.s. i really appreciate all your help guys. i'm slowly understanding how these carbs work more and more everyday! even though mine hasnt been working, i still prefer it over f.i.!! guess i'm just a weirdo!
