GA carb questions

hi, i have a 1985 rx7 12a, i want to know what the best aftermarket carburetor would be, whether its your preference or opinion, i would like to get as many opinions as i can

If you're running stock porting, I think the best carb is a Sterling Nikki.

Hey MJ. I like the Nikki's, firstly because I own them and secondly because they work great. A rebuild kit for the one you have in the pics is $27 at autozone, usually in stock.

If you want mo' powa', go with the Sterling, as noted above.

hey Ken loved the vid from North Carolina, i actually went to school up there and love the countryside. Where exactly was that? I could swear i recognized that road, i will try and see if I can get the Sterling, it sounds exactly like what i am looking for

That was the Tail of the Dragon. I was there last spring for the Deals Gap Rotary Rally, which I highly recommend you attend if you ever get the chance.

A big progressive two barrel is always a good choice whether its Weber, Mikuni or my fav Dellorto. Side drafts with a wrap around manifold for drivability or a down draft for all out performance.

Not knocking the Nikki or Sterling but theres other choices.

Weber/clones all the way, especially if you're ported.

thanks guys, i have done some research on the carbs posted above and I feel for me with the car I have the Sterling would be my best bet

I have the Sterling as well, and have nothing but good things to say. Do not forget you will need to upgrade your exhaust and fuel system as well, or you'll see very little gains with just the carb. The stock exhaust will just choke the whole system.

I will also put in a good word for the side drats, I am rocking a Dellorto, but it, like all the other good performance carburetors, require a slew of supporting mods to really matter. I do LOVE my dell though, such a good carb, starts in any weather, no choke, idle smooth, makes a good intake note, is capable of getting good mileage (in theory, I don't have the self discipline to know if this is true lol), and is more than capable for motorsport.

I do have to say though, although I have no personal experience with a Sterling, I have read through his site, seen the support he gives to customers, or even people who have his product, but purchased second hand, and can honestly say you wouldn't be able to make a mistake getting a Sterling either.

No choke? seriously? Got some secrets your willing to share? Mine is sometimes stubborn to get to started in the morning but once its warm its perfect.
Do you know where to get parts within the US? Im lookin into rebuild kits and possibly getting the trumpets back for it but I cant find an American Distributor.

But yea overall I LOVE my dellorto...great great carb.

The right idle jets make all the difference for cold starts. My 45 DCOE starts right up in the morning and will idle within a few seconds. No choke, just a couple pumps of the pedal is all it takes.

Best place to go is oversees to www.dellorto.com. They have the rebuild kit you need and possible a needle seat that will work. When I rebuilt mine I got a 3.50 needle and seat with the kit and it works fine. It was shipped and in my hands in less than 2 weeks. I had issues with CB Performance not shipping, so can't recommend them in the states.

My Sterling doesn't have a choke either (optional), and I've never had a problem getting her started. Even in the middle of winter, under 4 feet of snow. Anyone can do this with any carb, it just takes a little training to bring your foot up to speed.

what he said. It's a pain in the but though with the american dollar being utter crap. In order to play around with a handful of jets to tune, I payed like $60 for like 3 or 4 different sets of jets. Pretty much do the conversion for the price you will have to pay for each part, then add $20 to your order for shipping to the U.S. So try and get as much stuff in per order if possible.

Chokes have not been an option on my carbs for quite some time. (They're for sissies. )

'87 TII, you mentioned elsewhere that the font on my site is hard to read. Anyone else feel that way? -Cause I would change it if that is the general consensus.
