Carb and fuel tank questions.
Okay so senior year started today, and I need something to keep myself awake so I don't stay up late then sleep in class, I'm working only 3 days a week now because of this economy.
So mom's idea behind the 7 is either work on it or get rid of it
It's a 79 12a and to run it needs:
carb rebuild
gas tank(I don't care if its oem or fuel cell)
tires
brakes
I had the her cranked up just by putting gas in the carb and it sounded nice for the brief seconds of life
so my questions are how to address the carb and gas tank with minimal hurt on the wallet
I wanna get her running so I can afford to take my truck off the road for a few days at a time and work on some of the major things that need to be done(my brakes went out last week and I had to borrow the girlfriends car(luckily she doesn't drive yet)) plus I want this to be a leisure car for the longer trips so I don't kill the truck more.

I could use a good 12a block, ill take it off your hands as well.
As far as the carb and gas tank go you should rebuild the carb yourself (kits run about $30) or get in touch with Sterling, the resident nikki expert. Whats wrong with the tank exactly? Do you not haave one at all? If you do, just get a refurb kit for it. If you dont have one, find the cheapest one you can and refurb that one lol

In my opinion, order a modified carb from Sterling.
If you have access to a auto enthusiast who knows what "dwell" means... Get the points sets for your distributor along with the condenser(s,) cap and rotor. Have your coils tested. Fuel issues with my SA (79 as well) all came from the rotting fuel lines, and not the tank. In fact, the tank was rust-free and still had the "new" finish.
Tires on the stock wheels will be ultra-cheap. Keep an eye on the newspaper or drive-by specials at your local tire shops, often the "advertised special" is a close enough size for a 13 inch wheel.
Brakes are pretty easy, just remember that with the fronts there's some fly-apart parts that you need to have spares of just in case, and the rears have a seperate adjustment for each shoe... Bleed, bleed and bleed some more... etc.
(If you do not have access to someone who's a pro with points ignition look for a 81+ distributor, cap, rotor, ignitors and coils)

Rent a copy of "Better Off Dead," show it to your mom, and calmly explain to her that all you need to get your car going is a hot French foreign-exchange student.
Your first carb rebuild is a rite of passage in the path to manhood.
As is a hot French foreign-exchange student, for that matter.
