carb or compression?

alright so my car has sat since 99... the carb is a junk yard unit , that came from a running wrecked car. the car does not want to start, after dumping some gas down the carb and cranking the living hell out of it it sputtters to life, but will not run under 2k rpm... it smokes worse than a freight train when it does run....
the accelerater pump is squirting but it still needs the gas dumped in to start. thanks all

It could just be your fuel is dead and you pouring fresh fuel through the carb may be what is actually burning. I had a car like that back in '97 and I rebuilt the carb and ran the crap out of that car for a couple of years until I transplanted a 13B bridge in there. The carb never let me down after the rebuild. Just my $.02

yeah i did a mmo treatment blew it out yesterday. drove up and down the street, it ran strong above 4k just wouldnt run below 2k. started it today after much cranking and ran it for a good 5 minutes before the oil smoke gathered enough for a cop to tell me not to run it anymore.
