car wont start.. episode 2... with a VENGEANCE!

85gsl

left it parked fr a week and when i tried to start it, it would almost catch, but not quite. left it overnight again, and the next day, i cant get anycombustion at all.

replaced the cap and rotor, checked that all spark plugs spark, fuel is definitly being pumped into the engine...

but nothing. i turn the engine over and i dont hear any combustion at all.

just to double check, the spark plug wire pattern, as viewed from the distributor side of the car is

T1 T2
L1 L2

right? he haynes manual is purposely vague about this.

I would replace the spark plugs, but without transportation, its very difficult to get the the parts store that has the correct ones. like I sai though, they do spark.

when i pull the plugs out after unsucessfully spinning the starter, they are quite oily. is this normal?

i tried spraying starter fluid in, and it doesn help. i didnt see any puddles beneath the car either.

thanks!

right?

dear god. if my engin just blew on me just because i parked it for a week, i will be so royally pissed. especially after everybody told me not to get a rotary because the engines never last.

The forward coil (closest to the radiator) is the trailing coil. Also, are you sure its oil and not gas?

well, it smells of gas, but its definitly dark brown... com to think of it, it's definitly too thin to be just plain oil... so you're saying it's probably gas with oil in it?

okay, so wtf? i've got spark and gas, wheres the kaboom?

tomorrow i'll go bus to the store and buy some new spark plugs, and if that doesn't help, ill be completely pissed.

seriously... why am i getting no combustion at all? maybe all this cranking has killed the battery a bit. ill try getting a boost while I crank. but i took the plugs out and WATCHED them all spark.

what is the freaking deal? i need my car!

Weak ignition always shows up in cold weather. Also, sounds like you may be burning a little bit of excess oil. My GSL does that and If I let it sit for more than a few days, its hella tough to get it started. All the extra carbon builds up and makes the seals sticky.

Erik did a great writeup on this. Look here.
