Tokico Illumina - adjustment

Anyone have Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustables? How easy are they to adjust? Are they externally adjustable with a **** at the top?.. do you have to jack the car up or anything before you change the setting?

What does "simultaneous" adjustment of compression and rebound mean?.. I assume this means both of these settings are pre-set for each click, and that they aren't "independently" adjustable.. or are they?

And what springs are you running with these? Many thanks!

I've got the Tokico springs on the car, all installed by the 1st owner. Bump and rebound are adjusted using the same little orifices inside the shock, it's not something you ever reall worry about. No, they aren't independently adjustable. With a screwdriver you turn the dial at the top of the shock between one and 5 and that's it. Take off the dust caps inside the engine bay, turn them, done. Swing the paneling in the rear down to expose the top of the strut, turn it, done.
I liked my Konis a little better from the FD, but these aren't bad. I'm certainly happy the car came with them and I'm pretty happy with it.

i have them and they kick ***.

1 gives you a smooth ride.
5 gives you racetrack firmness.

I would run 3 all around for the street.

i was thinking aobut them.. but for $200 less, i could of gotten the tokico blues, so i did. i run eibach springs and i love the ride. its awesome. i started thinking today though, i should of gotten the illumina's for the rear so i can adjust it for drifting, or handling... oh well, i guess when they loosen up and need to be replaced, i will do that, but its not worth the money right now.

Yeah. People seem to really like the Illuminas. Also, the Eibach springs seem to be popular, as well as the RB springs. Also, Direct Freak just drilled a small hole in his interior panel so he can adjust his without needing to take anything apart. Wheres that pic DF?

As easy as turning a screwdriver.

You guessed it, it means that when you change the setting, both the rebound and compression characteristics of the shocks are affected. Wheas some brands only ajust for rebound. The more expensive shocks have seperate ajusmtents for both compression and rebound.

I have some Illuminas in the front with some 350 in/lbs
springs and some tokico golds (8 year old HP's) with 200 in/lbs in the rear

I cannot really go under the 3 setting in the front. I find that at 3 they are a little stiffer than the HP's (I tried both NEW HP's and new Illuminas in the front) one of the HP's blew out

the rear is bouncing all over the place on auto-X courses and the highway.I Just took the rear shocks off this week and they still seem ok... sorta
Time to get illuminas for the rear

I tend to belive that everyone likes the Illuminas best because it is the only shock that offers higher dampening capabilities without having to rebore the strut. So you dont really have much other choices unless you want to spend alot of $$$.
