car will not start

Hi ok for the past 3 days me and my dad have been working on the car and carb we did not get a carb kit. But we had 2 other carbs from a parts rx7 I got. Ok so we tryed to build one. We put it on the car. It took omost 1hour because it is hard to get the one bolt on. Ok well we got every thing ready we put all the stuff back on to make it work. We put somthing down the carb. Ok well i would pull the choke out and push in the clutch in then I turn the key and nothing happons but the lights turn on when you start the car. But the motor does not turn or any thing. I think it is the starter but I dont know.

PS: There was gas in it well i think.

can any one help?

Sounds like a starter. Make sure when you go to buy a starter (if that ends up being your problem anyway) to get a lifetime warranty. Is there a click or anything, though? Does the engine spin at all? Anything whatsoever? It could also just be a lose wire or something of that nature as well.

Make sure the Battery is WELL charged, clean the connections (battery terminals, starter connections),and for God's Sake, make sure the Polarity is Correct..Best way is to find the Cable to the Engine Ground And mark the OTHER cable with RED TAPE.Check the Fuse Block Connections(engine bay) and check the Wires there, also the Main fuse for the Engine..Good luck .

check the batt. first like ^ said. clean off teminals and the batt. cables. Sounds like a bad starter solenoid, same thing happened to me. you can start it by popping the clutch if you need to move it.

Yeah, definitely check the battery first. I just instantly went towards the starter because mine just went out on me.

A good battery with a fresh charge should be showing 13v. Take the battery to an auto parts store, they will load test it for free.

I have found the starters to be very durable. I don't know how many times I used mine to get the car up the driveway, through the backyard and into the shop by cranking on the starter with the the clutch out and the tranny in 1st gear.

A couple of weeks ago I replaced it thinking I had finally toasted it, but the next 2 replacements did the same thing, click. Replaced the battery cables and I was good to go again.

i agree with everyone here..try the starter, mine was sluggish at first then i replaced it at no problems what so ever..do a 60,000 mile tune up on it too..the whole 9..that makes a BIG difference..12a's are very diff..and i've never heard of a 12a flooding..hmm..you better hope its not seased or carbon locked..that and sometimes when you let a 12a sit for awhile you need to turn the key a few times..cause the wiring is so old that it needs to get the juice going..i just got done rebuilding a 12a..and they tend to have alot of carbon build up.. on them.. well good luck on this..

Well today we tryed to get it working and the motor turned over and it omost started. I think we need to fix the starter and we need a new battery cabel. Then i hope it will run. then I can pull the motor and start working on it. I am going to put that motor back in it but i need to get rid of the black guncy stuff where the motor is. Thanks for the tip guys. Oh and 2day I got a welder so I can fix the one big hole and another one I found I will take a pic of it later to show you.
