Capacitor looking thing on top inspection plate 12A

Hey guys... Never thought this would be my first post here but I have a question. What is that thing that looks like a capacitor with a single black wire running to it. It is grounded to one of the top inspection plate bolts. Anyways, I broke it and was wondering if the car can start without it... I would much rather get a replacement than risk damage to anything else. Car is a 1985 GS Automatic 12a. I will try to post a picture soon. Cheers.

It's to help with radio interference from the rest of the electrical system.

You can drive it without, but they are cheap to buy.

Oh ok... What is it called anyways? Do I have to get this from mazda or would an electronic store carry these? Although I believe it is cased in aluminum to be heat resistant. Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Is this a 0.47 micro farad capacitor?

I think I found one on eBay. It's not a Mazda or RX7 specific item.

It should be easy to find.

It is a capacitor.

I believe they are just called condensors. Supposedly the one on the inspection plate is specific to the oil pressure gauge system.

Ya it's for the oil pressure gauge. Can't remember if it's a compactor or resistor. But your gauge will be slightly off without it. Ive been looking for a replacement for years.

Yeah, that's a condenser, more commonly known as a capacitor, used to prevent radio interference. That design was commonly used on 70's and earlier cars for the ignition system points and condenser. You can buy one from RockAuto for any car 50+ years old. Here's one for a 60's Ford: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=7092&jsn=601
