Can't Figure this out!

I just bought a 85' rx7 12a and the motor will turn over but not crank up. i put oil in it and put new gas in it, i also checked the spark plugs for spark and they are sparking but i still cant figure out the problem. my starter quit work on me so i had to hit it with a hammer to get it goin again, do u think the starter could be my problem?

thanx a lot.

Rx7's have to have cranking compression to fire properly, too slow of cranking will result in a no start and more than likely flood the plugs. If the starter quit working
and you have banged on it and nothing happens, could be the brushes are worn out, the battery is discharged, you blew a fusable link, have poor connections between the battery and the cables or a poor ground. Check these first then go thru the faq section for further tips. rx7doctor

I had the same problem with the 84 GLS-SE that I just got a few months ago. I replaced the battery, had my starter rebuilt and it cranked right up. She had sat up a while without being ran soow I have to work on the carb. Good luck. GAry
