13B + first gen = questions.

Just found a STEAL on a 13B-RE, and I wanna drop it into a shell I found..

To mount the 12A's front cover on the 13B, do I have to completely disassemble the motor?

I've only taken apart the motors, never put them back together. Basically just trying to see what it will take.

Thanks y'all!

to swap front covers there is no need to disassemble the whole engine. get an oil pan gasket before you start.
1. pull the main pulley bolt
2. pull the oil pan
3. pull the bolts to the front cover

Assembly is the reverse of removal.

yea, the only "hard" part is getting the main pully off, which isn't hard if you have air tools

13B-RE? I thought that you couldn't change the front cover on that engine. Or there was something you couldn't do that prevented it from going into an FB. Or maybe Im babling.

Should check that out though.

RE stands for Rotary Engine........

You're probly thinking 13B-REW which is the 3rd gen twin turbo engine.

WTF???

How aboot some clarification on what you mean by a 13B-RE..

are you talking about a 13B Cosmo engine??????????

if so, just the front cover, use the one from a 12A. Screw the pan gasket, Blue Sillicone is your friend. I keep 10oz caulking tubes of it stocked here at all times.

I disagree with "82transam" the hardest part esp for someone who has never done this before is making sure you get the o-ring/teflon seal correct from the oil-port.

the main pulley is a cake walk. all of you should have a ring-gear brake (or two, one for N/A Flywheels and one for Turbo Flywheels). Use the brake to hold the flywheel and remove the front bolt.

or a 13B from the GSL-SE "13B-RE-EGI"???

if so, it is a bolt in.

Again, please clarify, and we can walk you through this step-by-step.

I was thinking of a 3rd gen engine. Im kinda new to the designations considering I've only had a 12A in my car until now.

I thought you had to use a GSL-SE front cover the put a 13b into a first gen. What about a Turbo II motor how do you get that to go in a first gen which front cover would you use.

You can use a 12a front cover to put a 13b on a normal first gen. The only reason you would want ot use the GSL-SE font cover is if you planned on using the stock OMP system from the S4 engine.

However the GSL-SE front cover can acutgally be modified to accept the later electronic omps of the s5 and later engines. When I used to have the S5 fuel injection setup in my car I had a working S5 OMP system using the GSL-SE front cover. You just had to drill two more holes in the front cover for the addional screws. Didnt leak either!

Getting the engine bolted in is the easiest part.

So the 12a front cover will work as I was going to premix and run a microtec EFI unit I would still be able to keep the factory intake right. Sorry I am doing a Turbo II swap and still have alot of Questions.

Yes, you can use the 12a front cover. Just have to slot the mounts. (Very easy)

You also need a pan from a GSL-SE. And you will need to plum a return line back to the pan for the turbo as it usually goes to the front cover. the 12a cover does not have a place for the return line.
