can you rebuild a ignition key switch?

hey guys, just like the question says, my ignition key switch doesnt work properly anymore. i have 1980 rx7 b y the way. okay so today, i entered my key in the key hole just find out that it wouldnt get out of lock. the steering wheel wasnt lock so i know i can just turn the key without dealing with moving the steering wheel while trying to unlock. as i turned the key, it wouldnt let me get it out of lock. im assuming the key isnt going all they way in. so can i just pull this piece out and rebuild it?

I've rebuild one in a 1980 before. Mine failed when a small ball bearing fell out. There is a spring that the ball bearing sits on that allows the key to turn. Your problem sounds a little different but they are not hard to take apart.

I asked around facebook and even a couple of my friends, they say that it's a tumbler getting stuck.

The switch can be rebuilt and cleaned up. But your problem sounds like a lock cylinder. Not sure they can be redone. I haven't messed with mazda lock cyl, but in my experience, they always have to be replaced.
