if you read the factory repair manual it does sugest a wire brush, you could use a wire wheel i wouldnt recomend it just because i would rather do it by hand so i could ensure the quality of the rotor.

Yea,on cast iron its OK,but I wouldnt do that on an aluminum part.
Light pressure,like the man said,to got the large areas clean quickly.So long as you sweep the wheel off the edge and not into it,you wont mess anything up or blunt any corners.For the fine work,notice he only uses a brass brush.
Also.....no guard on that grinder.....Im tellin' OSHA!
