Can someone identify these symptoms

OK I will list all symptoms, suggestions needed to locate the problems.

1. Will idle with choke on but will not idle once choke shuts down. I keep it running by heel and toe feathering the throttle when I come to a stop.
2. At constant throttle car misses, just feels like its jerking, not doing this under acceleration at all.
3. Acceleration is strong.
4. Starts fine, two presses on throttle pull choke and start first time, I have 2GCDFIS.
5. New fuel filter, new plugs, still has rats nest.

Just want to eliminate this annoyance.

SHUTTER VALVE and your PCM under your passenger side carpet is bad if it is 84 or 85. Replace PCM out of a "83 GSL and replace the shutter valve and you are back in business. I know I had to do it to mine and it worked perfectly. The '83 GSL PCM gave it a bit more pep! :-)

replace:

PCM
Shutter Valve

and you are good to go!

Sounds like a carb/throttle body issue. Maybe a vacuum leak or sensor failure. The fact that it seems fine on choke makes me think the fuel mixture is getting foobarred when the choke is off. Lots of ways for that to happen. You'll need to do more diags to find out. I wouldn't run out and replace the 'puter right away, though. I would take the advice to check the shutter valve as I've seen people post about them before as problems. Good luck.

It is an 83 GSL, where is the shutter valve located.

After searching I found Bliffle just blocked his valve off, is there any downside to this.

i run w/o the shutter valve all the freakin time. suggah made me remove it after the symptoms you describe.

the valve itself is under the carb, rear rotor primary throat. take off the carb and remove the plate with two phillips screws.

Just stick a bolt in the shutter valve pipe going to the air cleaner. That's a worthless POS anyways. You tried chang the plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil and filter? Also, if it's been quite some time, I would freshen up the carb with a clean and rebuild. Also, check for vacuum leaks.

All previously done, car runs great with a huge freakin bolt in the hose under the air filter.
