it should only be a few screws, and then pull

Go to NAPA auto parts. Buy a Haynes Manual. Look at the section called "Interior." All you need, ever, is there, for $20.

You talking about the very top of the dash?

What year?

I see in your profile, its an 84. Dude you better look at the dash its the whole thing, glove box door, lower dash everything is made together.

If it were me, Id just remove one screw below the outter air vents, gently place a flatblade in the upper part of the outter air vent and pry a little the air vent will pop out and Id put my tweeters in there.

Hacking up the dash isnt really the answer for mounting the tweeters. But if you insist on mouting them on the dash for the sun and heat to mess them up, just use 3M doublesided tape

Removing the dash from a first gen is not an easy afternoon project. I did mine while the windsheild was out and it was a bitch.
I would find a new place for the tweeters.
I ended up putting my Infinity's in the door. Now I can't open the window, but it sounds good.
Actually, I would think tweeters would mount well in that position. There is a cut out in the door about 2 o'clock from the window crank. You should be able to flush mount tweeters. Just a thought.

I decided to go with the vent Idea.

And yes I have a Haynes manual. and a Chiltons. I always buy them as soon as I get a new or used car. the Interior section dosent even talk about the rx-7. soit was NO help.

Thanks for the Ideas guys.

Mike.

yup, gotta love the vent mount. i had a set of tweets in my old 79 there, attached them to the + thingie in the vent. then, cut the circle part of the vent in half, glue black speaker covering to the back of said vent, and reinstall vent over the tweet. voila! stealth tweeters!

did you set it up so that you would be able to adjust the tweeters (like you can the vents) ? now that would be sweet

Talking

I dont know what everyone is talking bout round vents... As you can see (if my pic works) my vents are NOT round.

Yes I can adjust the angle of the tweets. the tweet mounting bracket is spring loaded, all I do is push in a little and I can tilt the tweet to whatever position I want.
Illtry to get a pigger picture on the web, but since Photopoint shut down I havent pound another photo hosting site like it.

series one and two have round vents. that is what i was refering to.

you would be able to mount some in those and have them look completely stock (almost stealth).. in the first and second series, again, that vent is also a great place for a gauge.
