Can it make it?

Hey ya'll.

What's the betting my my little GS will make it cross country from San Francisco to Naples, Florida? I'm going to college down there, and I'm planning on taking my car. It's got 146k on it... I'm kind of afraid it might die on the way. I'm going to make sure it's fit and everything.... change the oil early, replace the breaks, and get a full engine check from my mechanic.

If you guys have any other advice, please feel free to give some input. Thanks.

You better haul that ****. I looked it up on my streets and tips it said it would take you 5 1/2 days and with the way gas is it would probably be cheaper to ship the car than to drive it. i just got back from tennesse with my brother and he got a third gen and it took 12 hours to get there and 12 to get back and that was a long drive. just think about it before you do it because once you start there is no stopping

Yeah, it's going to cost about $350 bucks for gas at the milage I've got. But that's okay because I'm going with my dad and he's going to pay for it :-D

For that long of a trip, I would do the full 60k maintenance. That would include changing ALL fluids in the car, coolant, (along with the thermostat), brakes, clutch, tranny and diff. Full tune up and replace any belts or hoses that are even slightly suspect. Those that you don't replace, carry spares. Include fuel hoses in your inspection.

Make sure the spare tire is useable and you have the jack and tire tools. Carry as many tools as you can along with spare fluids, brake, coolant, oil and ps fluid if you have it. A can of brake clean, roll of duct tape and electrical tape can fix a blown coolant hose enough to get you somewhere to make a full repair. Toss an assortment of hose clamps in your tool kit.

It might not hurt to have the alignment checked. That long of a trip can eat up tires before you get there. The more you can get done at home, especially if Dad is paying, the less you will have to worry about when you get there.

Good luck in school.

It'll make it easy enough. Just don't push 'er too hard, and give constant breaks.
