Can get my 84 to start. Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a previous thread everyone told me that was timing. I post a new thread to know how to match the scentric shaft with the pulley but no one respond to it. Well I try all four and seems like I found it BUT, now it back fires more often like it wants to go but nothing. I even got a flame up in the carb. I don't know what else to do........ Any Ideas??????

if it backfire thru the carb then your timing is still off. im not exactly sure about what your asking on the pulley but ill give it a shot anyway.
ok the inner section is ofcourse keyed, the pulley itself can go on any of 4 ways, the correct way to install it is line the timing dots with the keyway. or as close as you can get them it should be pretty close tho. i hope this helps

Lemme toss out a question at the risk of sounding too obvious...
Did you ever pull the dizzy on that motor?

I pull the distributor and line the two marks. before I stab the distributo I made sure the pulley was on the yellow dot. The only thing is that the pulley could be on any of the four positions. How do I assure the pulley is in the right spot?

ok the front of the eccentric shaft has a keyway in it but the keyway is hidden by the hub bolt. anyway the keyway should be in the 9 o'clock position and the leading timing mark should be near the timing pin that is on the front cover. DO NOT take the hub bolt off unless you know what you are doing, if you do it wrong bearings could fall and then you will have to take the front cover and oil pan off.

keyway

you can only see the key with the hub bolt off and by using a mirror, or feeling it with your finger. again do not take off the hub bolt unless you know the procedure. yes, the keyway for the front hub and the flywheel are located together.

you can take the hub bolt off to see the keyway just do not let the hub slide forward. another way to ensure the tornington bearings dont fall out of place is to hold the clucth pedal down with a 2X4, this shoves the e-shaft forward just enough to hold the bearings inplace.
