calling all people who have worked on their brakes for a 1st gen model

there is a z spring that has come out of the brakes and when i put the brakes back together there was no place to put it....
could someone tell me if this is a vitail part or if the brakes or if this could just possibly be a part of the anti-vibration stuff from a package when the brake pads were changed last

The Z spring spreads the brake pads and its purpose is to stop vibration and noise. They can be left out...

Did I miss something? I take it as he is wondering how this spring applies to the first gen brake system. I have found this item includeded in the hardware kit, located the holes in the pad for mounting the spring but never seen it in use or been able to make use of it myself. It seems logical that it keeps the pads from contacting the rotors to keep them from clanking while idle but the design of the first gen brake system does not seem to have been designed to utilize this feature. I myself would like anyone to confirm or deny this.

I actually have them installed. I am assuming that they are doing their job. Just a quick opinion... first gen brakes suck.

the brakes do suck, but there is a really cool 5 lead screw in there. (when you are a machinist, you find things like this cool)
