buzzing that wont go away
Recently when I start up my 85 RX7 I get a constant buzzing.... It never goes away, its coming from behind the guages somewhere. So i'm wondering if anyone has any advice to turn the damned thing off, maybe a fuse I can just pull. Or if I have to pull the dash apart and mess with some wiring back there i'd like to atleast know what i'm looking for and what i'm going to do when I find it.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

Unplug the oscillator(sp?) which is mounted in the left front fender between the battery and headlamp area. It looks like a relay and actually says oscillator on it.
Also make sure that your radiator coolant level is full.

Thanks.. I'll check that. Mechanically the car is sound with no problems at all. I replaced the radiator about 8 months ago so it should be full up still, it could use another quart of oil but everything else is topped off. I'm thinking this may just be a short or something..

The 'Oscillator' as pointed out above is the relay that takes in the signals from the various sensors on the engine and determines whether it should apply voltage to the buzzer behind your dash. This relay receives information from the Coolant Level Sensor at the top, center of the radiator, and the Oil Level Sensor which also activates the 'idiot' light on the instrument panel.
If coolant level or oil level is low, the Oscillator circuit will activate the buzzer to let you know that you need to look at the dash. Looking at the instrument panel lights will then reveal either/or the 'Add Coolant' light or the 'Check Engine Oil' light.
The buzzer is there due to the NECESSITY of these two things being in order to preserve the life of your rotary engine. Oil and coolant serve lubrication and cooling functions, and any problems here could quickly lead to overheating - rotary death.
In a lot of the older cars (like mine), the Oscillator relay has been eroded from the inside out due to the proximity to the battery. When filling the battery, any spillage gets on the wires/connector/inside and quickly kills this $60 Mazda Factory part. Henceforth, the buzzer is not activated by the circuit, but the dash lights still operate as designed.
Be glad that yours is working, and know that if you're getting a buzzer and no light - that one or more of your idiot lights may be burned out! With ignition key in 'run' (not started), the full panel of idiot lights should be lit to indicate a function test. HTH,
