Yep, burning them out is the way to go. When pressing them out, if the rubber does't start sliding out it will bulge outward and distort or break the metal.
But I think he is wrong about concentrating the heat on the bushing and setting it on fire, that's not going heat the surface around the bushing, where it's being held in. Heat the metal around the bushing and it slides out. The bushing will catch fire, but that's not your goal.
