Voltage Regulator 6 or 7 wires

Hello all, I did a search and didn't see anything. If this has already been covered, please direct me to the correct thread. The battery is slowly loosing charge over time and it appears it's just not getting charged enough which points me to the voltage regulator. I have a new regulator, so I don't need to do the alternator swap to an 81+ (or really have the desire to at this point). My questions is, the new one I have and most I see online have 6 wires, black, white, yellow, yellow/white, white/red, and white/black. When I went to swap it, the one in the car has 7 wires. Couldn't see colors with how dirty and beat up they are. I also noticed the connectors where slightly different but still a 6 wire connector. The seventh wire was spliced into a single connector right beside it all. The white/red wire also had a second attached at the connector and went out to something else as well.

Does any of that make sense why it is like that, or was one of the previous owners doing something wrong?
