Grassroots Motorsports needs YOUR help

Hey guys, check this out. GRM is doing a comparison of some older "supercars", they want to include a FD. I'm sure someone would like to get their car in the mag and show them what type of performance the FD has. Please only NICE cars apply!

Here is a cut and paste of the post on their message board www.grassrootsmotorsports.com.

Hey all, this is the new guy, Travis. So we are in the midst of planning a big compar-o article and we need your help. We are heading back to our favorite test facility to do a "Budget Supercars" test day. We need one of each of the following cars to be able to show up at the Michelin test facility in South Carolina on May the 6th and 7th. Once there Per Schroeder will run the cars through a battery of tests. This is not a tuner shootout, nor will there be prizes awarded or anything of that nature. It's intended to be a friendly day where we see what kind of supercar can be had for not a lot of money. Here s a list of everything that we need:

From the '80's:
Porsche 944 Turbo
2nd Gen Mazda RX-7 Turbo
1986-1989ish Toyota Supra Turbo
Early C4 Corvette
Supercharged Toyota MR2
Lotus Esprit
BMW M6
Porsche Carrera

From the '90s
Porsche 968
3rd Gen RX-7tt
TT Toyota Supra
Acura NSX
Late C4 Corvette
Toyota MR2 Turbo
Mitsubishi 3000GTVR4
Lotus Elan (FWD)
Dodge Viper
Nissan 300ZX TT

We also need a 63-67 Vette Small Block for another story. If you can help us out email me at GRMtravis@aol.com or call me at 1-888-676-9747. Thanks again, and I look forward to speaking with you all!

Travis

Wonder what they consider "not a lot of money". They looking for stock or modded cars?

Also, I searched thier website and couldnt find anything about it. I noticed you can link to anything but the main page, could you give me some directions to this thread?

Thanks,
STEPHEN

From the sounds of it, they want something that's pretty close to stock. Emphasis here on "budget" .... most of us with the bigger power adders will probably not qualify.

Although, for the price of some of the competition, I could still submit my car and add a couple more things to make the dollars signs even ....

Go to the main page, Message Board, GRM Message Board and you'll see the thread "GRM testing event".

I'm thinking it would be cool to bring a mildly modded car and a stock one. Highly modded cars tend to do poorly in comparisons like this because the car and/or the owner always isn't quite finished and has some type of problem/excuse. Remember SCC's comparison with the FD, that car wasn't really wildly modded either. It did very well.

I've got a white 94 FD for sale for $16,900. It has a new Mazda reman, DP, Efini y-pipe, Hawk HPS pads, and Bonez clutch. This sort of car would be really nice to use as a comparison car. It is pretty high performance on a "budget".

Any car that was modded similarly to my R1 would be cool too IMHO, M2 stage 3, springs, shocks and some Kuhmos on stock wheels.

Don't go if you don't have your stuff sorted. I'd rather not have them prove that a poorly modded car sucks.

Holy $hit. How do you call a viper and an NSX affordable super cars. That class should not include anything that's more than double the average salary of US citizens. RX-7, Supra, 300ZX, 3000GT, yes. But Viper, NSX, no way, tooo pricey.

PFS 3 rotor single turbo FD cost less than a viper to build, including the price of the car (new!, they estimated it at about 38k i believe). Wow, they should send in an $80,000+ FD to compete, that would be a competition!

They're probably referring to early 90's versions ... a early 90's Viper goes for around $30K and an early 90's NSX can be had for around $25K. That's funny though ... try finding a MKIV Supra for around that price. And that would be stock; where the Supra climbs into pig status.

That's unfortunate that it's such short notice. My car is fairly sorted out. I'd like stiffer springs, but I'm still competitive in it. Lots of stick left in my Kumhos too. Dang.

I could take a 93RX7 and have it running 10's @ 125+mph on pump gas and still tearing up a road course for $25K-30K including the price of the car.

Talk about competing with a Viper $ for $ it would absolutly destroy a Viper or NSX. Hell a good running 3rd gen will eat a early 90's Viper for lunch with about $2500 worth of mods.

Why did you feel the need to tell us that?

Read the post, don't like it then fine, don't volunteer.

Figure when a car rag does a test on a car they are going to want to post THEIR opinions on how the car drives. Not your opinion of how you think your car drives.

God people think the FD is the most exotic car in the world... People have loaned F40 and F50s to car rags for comparision testing. 95% of FDs won't sell for more than $25K, the cost of a couple wheels on the F50.

So why not loan them your car, if you think your FD is only worth a couple F50 wheels...LOL

I'm with Jeff here... Sleep you managed to make three posts and add nothing to this thread.

Turbojeff... think mine would be a good candidate?
