Burnt Side Housing?

Would this appear to be a burnt side housing to you?
Gonna hazard a guess and say yes, and assume its unusable?

On a side note, how the hell do you get high quality larger photos into the threads? I know some of the pics people post are bigger than 250 kb

if it doesnt show up http://s24.photobucket.com/albums/c8...t=IMG_4931.jpg is the link. hope that works

Dude that does not look burnt, looks like deposits.

If burnt, it would look bluish, violet.

Check with a feeler gauge, if ok, go ahead and use it

ooooh, cool, i wasnt sure (hence my other thread about overheat issues that you also replied to)

And i looked at the mazdatrix site and its hard to tell from their low res small pics wether their example of a burnt housing is brown like my or burnt, other than the marks are in a different place

Thanks once again xlr8planet!!

So what was the demise of that engine? Did it just run lean? Also why is the heat pattern around the stationary so different from the other?

I think it is likely oil starvation (xlr8planet said that happens in another thread of mine)

http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/sidehsgs.htm about half way down, their images are just hard to see.

I havent seen yet an engine fail because a component went bad

I´ve seen several neglected engines go bad because the owner just "forgot" to check and add oil
