Broken Center Console

I just picked up my second RX-7 from my aunt this weekend. She has owned it since new and had just been restored but gave it to her son to drive a couple years agon. Of the many small repairs I have to do, the centre console arm rest is broken. I was wondering if I could get a different colour from the wrecker and swap the peices.

Sure, you can also swap the entire unit behind the shifter. Lift the covering material at the bottom of the cubby to find the screws.

Heh. I dont know what the dude who owned this RX7 was doing before me... However, the center console was literally looking like it was burned by acid. I bumped it, and it shattered into peices. The entire roof of this car too was covered in what I think was WEED. As in, the drug. Marry jane smoke. It was sticky, black and had a foul odour.

i would go ahead and search every crevice, crack and whole in that car. maybe you'll get lucky and find something worth more than your car lol

LOL! So... maybe that was the gunk in the gas tank that clogged two fuel filters...

Friend of mine found a crack pipe behind the B-pillar trim on one of my parts cars. I would go through the car and make sure there isn't anything hidden to get busted for.

I checked the basic spots, spare tire, etc. Im sure though that if there was anything to get busted for, its all rusted out like the rest of the car

More specifically the hinge on the centre console is what is broken.

the spring might of just come off, you if you remove the center console, pretty simple. like 4 screws, 2 of them are at the rear of it, and two more under the little switch thing behind the shifter, this is either a coin holder, or your window button switch depending on model. it pops out easy enough with a flat head screw driver, just dont pry too hard or you'll break the plastic prong things holding it down.

then the console just lifts right off, flip it over and make sure the spring is still attached to the metal arm thing in between.

i'm not sure if that made any sense, but its pretty easy to do once you have it apart, wont take ya 10 minutes.

g'luck

Paradox is right, it is usually just the spring hinge. Take it apart and if nothing is broken it should work fine when you get the spring back in the right place. If it is broken you can pick up another on ebay (one just went for $9.99) or in the parts section on this forum.

Check under the storage bins too. If I had something to hide, that's where I would put it.
