Bravo-1! Bravo-1! Car Down Car Down Send Tow Tuck Stat!

Well guys whatever that noise was had something bad in line with it. Driving driving driving CLUNK! Can't get into gear can't get into gear scraping noise scrape scrape I turn car off then. Not tranny cause after sitting I could start it and then drive alittle ways and scrape scrape scrape. I don't know I think my master cylinder just took a dive I don't know. When the clunk happened I thought **** no. Put back in 5th my mind says grind....try again.....grind...maybe it won't do it in 4th grind....**** no **** me no **** oh **** 3rd grind.....scrape **** **** **** what the **** is going on.....pull into turning lane and shut car off. LUCKILY a police officer pulled up about 5 minutes later and helped me. Guy was cool, I think he was actually impressed. BUT ****! Now I can't buy my 32" flat screen. ****. Oh well. Car more important. But hey at least I don't have to go to work tomorrow.

no no like it wouldn't go into gear or something. Then after letting it sit for awhile it would go into gear drive alittle bit then scrape scrape and you could feel it trying to go out of gear.

The same thing happened to me the day I replaced my master and slave clutch cyls!

I had driven most of the day just fine, then I'm driving down Merivale road and suddenly I can't get into gear! *grind grind* okay, I'll pump the clutch *rapid 5-shot pump then hold*, *grind grind* *takes radio* "okay guys, I'm grounded at the partsource on Merivale, someone drop back and give a hand!"

I figured my clutch fluid might have been leaking but it turned out that they were working just fine. It's actually a problem with my *clutch* I believe. I'll have to see when my mechanic takes the transmission off to install the new RB clutch and pressure plate I'm getting in August. Until then the car is grounded.

well my clutch is brand new and working fine cause I let off very slowly and when I say slowly it took me a good 30 seconds to get the car to move and when it did the clutch grabbed nicely

I'd replace the whole setup and not worry about it for a while. You'd hate to replace one part of the internals of the clutch, only to have to tear it down again to replace another part in a couple of months or less. That wouldn't be good. Don't know if it's economically feasible for you (I know it's not for me, and I'm about to have to do the same thing, I'm afraid) but better to fix the problem and prevent near future problems rather than fixing just one thing at a time....2-3 times the labor in 2-3 trips.... and if you don't do it yourself, it can get really pricey!

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Do you mean the pilot bearing or the throwout bearing?

The pilot bearing is on the end of the tranny input and centers it in the engine crank. All it does is support the Tranny input shaft. (its a 4$ item) Good to replace but woulden't cause your simptoms.

The throwout bearing rides on the tranny input shaft and presses aginst the clutch pressure plate - disconecting the engine from the tranny.

This when just running will make noise when it starts to go. Many times the noise will eather go away or get worse (thats right it can do eather...point is it changes) when the clutch is depressed. When they start to lock up they can jam on the tranny input shaft (hurting your tranny) and not wanting to disengage your clutch. They can also lock up and tear the hell out of your clutch pressure plate and clutch fork. They also fit you simptoms in that many times when the bearing is cool it will spin just fine...but after a bit the bad bearing will heat up and start to lock on you.

Oh and the shitty part is that to replace eather of these you have to pull eather the tranny or engine just like when you put in a clutch....
