Something is either wrong with your brakes (low fluid, e-brake partially on) , or the brake light system (fluid level switch, brake light switch, wiring).

Fix it, don't switch it off.

check your fluid, make sure your hand brake is not engaged. or clean your sensor at the reservoir

I had this same problem. It was low brake fluid for me.

If it's not the brake fluid, your break light switch or your light bolts, check your relay. Sometimes they lose contact and the light on the dash comes on and back lights don't come on.

check your rear break bulbs also there is a float in the reservoire that is magnetic, clean it.

Had the same problem with a car i'm restoring and it was the float. Cleaned it, put it back in, and that was it.

I'd point to rear bulbs. The light has 4 different functions, and any of the following will set it off:

Low fluid (magnetic float with reed switch)
Proportioning valve is shuttled (leak in front or rear hydraulic circuit)
E-brake is up
One of your rear light bulbs is blown

i would personally look into the e-brake switch. remove and test it for proper function. sounds like its not working properly. you may be able to remove and clean it and get it back to normal function.

There is one more switch in the circuit besides those two. There is a switch inside the ignition switch. One of the several plugs leading to the ignition switch has 4 terminals. Two terminals are unused. The other two have Black and Red/black (wiring diagram says Black/red) wires. Unplug this plug and see if the light goes off.

We are talking about the warning light that says "Brake", right. Not the one that says "Stop Lamp". Were are mixing their functions together. The stop lamp warning is for bad bulbs and proportioning valve. Brake is for fluid level and E-brake.
