Boot-Leg Nitro Boost
Boot-Leg Nitro Boost
A friend of mine told me that on first gens You can smear steno(blue flamable cooking thing that's blue and comes out of a can) on the underside of the carborator intake cap and it will act like a nitro boost. Has any one done this? If so are there any drawbacks i should know about...
i've seen the stuff...it's like napalm. it's a can of gel you use for camping out cooking.
it burns almost invisible...you can put some of the gel on your finger, light it, and not feel the heat
i don't think the stuff would be practical in a car.

my guess is that it would cause detination. once some of that goes throught the intake along with the gas, and gets on the rotors. onces its ignited it will stay lit thats what they do a can can burn for up to 4 hours.. so a littel bit would prolly stay on the rotor and on the second pass once the gas comes in the rotor will essentialy be on fire and detinate the gas on the intake stroke..
bad idea!

Useless.
The engine is designed to burn BENZINE (Gasoline), not the alcohol-based gel that's used in Sterno cans! Without going into a lot of detail about why it won't work, consider that if you smear this highly flammable compound on the inside lid of your airfliter, that the first intake backfire you get is going to set your carb on fire - and THERE'S FUEL IN THERE!
This is just plain stupid. To put it in there is beyond reason, and clearly thought up by a ricer in an attempt to eek out another 1/2 horsepower on his local butt-dyno. We're smarter than that. Enough said...

seriously, i know it wouldn't work. you would, in theory, you would just be rubbing a useless compound onto your car. it would do nothing but harm. collect dirt and weasel its way into the engine and eat up a side seal.
just to be sure , kiss your ring and then give it a try ...
ship i mean , if your willing to kiss your ring ,then you might as well stick something potentially harmful , that isnt supposed to be in your engine , into your engine ...cheers mate

Where can I buy this "gel" not for the reason of using it in my car. But for the reason of being a dumb 18 year old and setting stuff on fire to impress my ignorant friends. Wal-Mart? Army Surplus store?
No it wouldn't work, but the reason to do it is for cooling the air. Some nitwit prolly got some on their hand and noticed that it got really cold. It promotes evaporative cooling somehow and they prolly thought it could cool down the air coming in.
For real fun, build a cage out of lightweight material. I reccomend CF rods and attach a large garbage bag on top of it. Light the can of sterno and instant hot air balloon. Use a light colored one at dusk and let it loose in the burbs. Just wait for the UFO nuts to go crazy.
