Bonez Race Pipe

I got my Bonez race pipe for 81-83 in today and I think I might have gotten the wrong one. Mine is just a strait pipe. It does not have the 45 degree upturn on one end where it would bolt to the manifold like the one pictured. Its only about 2' long and doesn't replace the whole mid-pipe. Is this right? I tried calling but they are closed for the weekend. If it is the right one then my exhaust must have been modified more than I thought because I'll only be able to bolt on one end and I'll have a 1-2" gap between it and the manifold. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like they sent you the 84-85. That happened to me also. Once I got in touch with them they shipped the other one out right away. I have one of each. I'll look for you tomorrow to be sure.

The 84-85 has the bend in the front. 83 is straight. Sounds like the problem is in the exhaust system. The 81-83 had a main Cat with a smaller "pre-silencer" in front of it. Between the manifold and the pre-silencer is a short stock pipe that has the bend in it. The stock 83 exhaust with the race pipe added should have 5 parts. Exhaust manifold, stock "bent pipe", race pipe, stock mid pipe, and the muffler. When I did mine I had to remove most of the hanger bolts from the exhaust then install the race pipe and snug the bolts down. Once I got the pipe in place I reinstalled the hanger bolts and finished tightening the bolts on the race pipe. I had to do a little pushing and pulling to get the pipe to match up, but it fit fine when I was all done. I don't remember it being 2" off. Maybe an inch, mainly it just wouldn't let me thread the bolts when the rest of the system was bolted in place.

From the 81-83 parts manual...red is what the pipe replaces (main cat and pre-silencer), blue is the stock bent pipe.

I just noticed you have a 13B. That might cause some of the mis-fit. Not sure how much difference between 13B manifold and 12A.

He has an 81-83 12A manifold slotted to fit a 13B. It may be off only 5mm from a 12A, if that.

Ok. Thanks guys. I guess my exhaust was modified more than I thought. Previous owner removed the pre-cat and welded a strait pipe to the elbow and replaced the main cat and clamped it to the strait pipe and the mid-pipe. So the only flanges left are the manifold and muffler. I guess I'm looking for a stock elbow and mid-pipe now. Definitely not my week. Ugh!

Thanks to ssfredsti I now have a 84-85 pipe. Thanks again. Now all I need is a good midpipe. I've decided to just make one instead of hunting one down. Does anyone know where to get stock style flanges?

I have a midpipe from an '84 auto. Also part of the over axle pipe > without the muffler.

Stock style flanges can be purchased from RB and MZTX.
