bolt on turbos
anyone know where i can buy tubos for my 12a series 3?
is it hard to install?
when people say "bolt-on".. is it really as easy as bolting it on.. or do you need to upgrade some parts and put an intercooler in..
do they still make bolt on turbos for the first gen? if so.. does it fit nice and snug.. or do you have do some modifications..
also anyone know where i can buy K&N filter for the first gen online?.. like ebay or anything? is there a special website for it that sells mods soley for the fitst gen..
i came across alot of websites but most of them are for 2nd and 3rd gens
thanx guys

not to be the 'repost police' or anything, but search for "turbo" in this section. forgot his name (sorry) but a guy here did a REALLY well written write up on turboing a 12a. almost made me want to do mine. im sure his write up with answer most of your questions.
i did a search.. but no one has come up with a website that sells turbo kits soley for the first gen..
im just wondering if theres like a proffesional company that does it..
that sells like 190HP /290HP/500HP types of turbos
like have different products dedicated to modding the first gen

im pretty sure no one sells a "kit" for it. youll probably have to peice everything together.
intake is a fancy version of what ive seen most people do (including myself) if you look, the black tube that comes off the blue box is the original tube that sticks off, just modified. you move the over-flow tank somewhere else ( i mounted it on the strut tower wall using self tapping screws), cut a whole in the radiator support where the overflow tank was, and put a pipe through it. took me about 2 hours including a trip to the store.

only 2 hours!
damn .. it will take me 2 days just to replace the gauges to my aftermarket ones..
btw.. u dont know any websites or stores that actually sell proffesional kits for the 12a do ya?
not just cold air intakes.. but BOVs, turbos, headers, etc..
all the nice goodies..

There used to be kits in Europe, from Elford and TWR. Both firms are long gone, and there is hardly any change you can get your hands to kit.
Not sure about other countries, I thought Cartech made one, but I believe that was for 13B (GSL-SE)...
With the 1st gen out of production for so long, most of these things got out of production too.

Mike, you could have said that to me a bit earlier, yes? I would have bought it straight away! It's the only LEGAL way to get more power in a first gen in Belgium! They have full homologation...
hey i just found a compnay that does intakes systems and sells k&n filters for the first gen

I'd be really wary of buying a kit from a private individual sight unseen. Who knows what condition the turbo is in?
Rest of the pieces should be all right all long as there's no cracks or anything.

From what Andy says, the only difference is the noise
Doing both the cold air kit and the K&N does very little, only like 3HP... sure every little bit helps, but it's not gonna do dick all on a completely stock car. And add to this the fact that if you check on the arm of the air filter cover, there's a white soft hose that goes downwards.. This hose connects to a heat shield around the thermal reactor, the HOTTEST PART OF THE CAR.... This hose brings hot air up when the air coming in is too cold, via a valve in the arm of the air filter canister.
I noticed the guy with the custom job above didn't take his hose out and plug the hole, so really his cold air kit is just opening a valve that lets warm air come in! The car's been DESIGNED to compensate for exactly what you're doing, so if you dont' take the hose off, the cold air kit is a stupid waste of time, money and effort, for an arguable gain if any.

so whats the easiest way of ganing noticable HP without porting.. because i understand porting needs u to take apart the whole engine..
