Bolt Pattern questions.

This is my 82 that was purchased as my first car 23 years ago. I have made several improvements / modifications to it over those years but this particular question is concerning the bolt pattern which is a little more tricky due to the following.

20+ years ago when you could find first gens scattered throughout the pick a part yards, I swapped the rear axle to a 84 GSL so that I could have 4 wheel disc brakes.

About 15 years ago when re-speed was around, I installed the big brake kit on the front, allowing me to install the TII front rotors and calipers. I think the rear kit wasn't available at the time, so I re drilled the rear hubs and rotors to match the 5x114.3 bolt pattern. It has worked for many years with no issues but I'm now concerned about the safety of this since I recently converted the car to a 13b fuel injected engine and now those garage drilled hubs have just over 200hp going to them.

So now im stuck with having custom axles made for the rear with the 5x114.3 pattern, if thats even possible (possible Moser who im waiting to hear back from). I will still have to re drill the 84 rear rotors to match the 5x114.3.......or my other option would be converting everything back to a 4x114.5 bolt pattern, unless there is some other adapter 5x114.3 kit for the rear that I dont know about? I do have a GSL-SE rear axle I could swap in it and then im guessing the front would just need new GSL-SE rotors. Then Im back to wheel and tire shopping.

Any advice or comments on options are appreciated,

Thanks guys!

Dutchman will be able to make you axles, and they won't be flimsy crap like Moser.

I know they can do the '84-up 26 spline because I sold some broken GSL-SE axles to a man who was narrowing an 'SE rearend for use in a Datsun Roadster and had Dutchman do the work of resplining.

Practically speaking, if you have not had an issue before, you won't now. Cornering loads put far more stress on the wheel interface than power. Hell, rolling down the road puts more stress on it. You'll continue to be fine.

plan B might be to go with the GSL-SE rear setup, 4x114.3, and then find some 4 lug FC hubs, and re-drill the 5 lug FC rotor. the whole car would then be 4x114.3 with mostly factory parts.
not sure its worth the bother though, like Peejay says its the cornering

Finding 4 lug FC parts is really difficult since most people scrap the hubs, calipers are NLA from the remanufacturers, as are repair parts for the calipers. Which may be why remans are NLA.

I was willing to pay a significant bounty for four lug hubs and got exactly one pair. Was willing to spend $50-100 per hub. One pair.

Good to know that hording 4 lug FC hubs in the past was a good plan. Used to be they were super easy to find because nobody wanted them. Of course the same could be said for allot of the parts on these cars.

I would agree that you should be fine with you have always been running. I have Moser GSL rear axles that I had drilled to 4x4.5 and then later drilled to 4x100. So far so good. I have seen OE and Moser axles break in racing applications and it was always at the spline not the flange.

Thanks for the input. I did drop off the axles yesterday at Moser and they said they will have no problem making new ones with the 5 lug bolt pattern. They said the same thing (that they have never seen the flange break on the otter edge between the studs... so that was good to know). They are going to re-drill the new rotors I'm sending them to match the 5 lug bolt pattern. I know Moser has some mixed reviews but I figure anything's better than the garage drilled hub I did. they had a pretty impressive operation with hundreds of custom hubs of all sizes sitting there waiting to be shipped off, so I'm guessing most people are satisfied with their quality. Ill post some pics when everything arrives. I did pick up that GSL-SE rear axle yesterday just as a back up, if I ever want to switch everything back, so I can sleep a little easier. Thanks again for the input!
