Drilling out rotors to a desired bolt pattern

has anyone ever custom drilled a bolt pattern on the stock rotor? i was thinking of buying 4 new rotors for my gsl and getting them machined to have a 5 by 114 bolt pattern. will this work? if so, someone should mass produce! i hate to have to run adapters.

i will be getting these rims for my car. so sweet!!

It is possible, the fronts initially seem like they would be prety easy to modify.
However, since the rear brake rotors arent really attached to anything you have to drill and tap your axles, and then drill out the rotors so the studs/lugs go though.

Im not sure exactly how much surface area you have to work with on the rear axle, but I assume there is enough to fit the 5X114 pattern.

The front may be a little trickier. There is plenty of room, but many of the replacement rotors dont have a smooth surface to add extra threaded holes. Mine just had a bit of surface around the 4 threaded lug holes, and between them there were indents. Im not sure if my description is understandable, but basically there doesnt seem like a decent flat surface to add more holes to.
Ill see if I can dig up a picture.

why dont you do the respeed brake conversion for the front? it gives you T2 4 pistons brakes along with 5x114. respeed also has a brake upgrade for the rear to convert the rear as well. its in its finishing stages and will be released soon.

You can sorta see it here, This may just be the rotors I got, and even if thats the way they all are I really dont know if it would matter, but just imagine where the 5 lug bolt pattern would land.
My guess is that some of the holes would end up in the little indents, which wouldnt make me to happy. Im sure it would work, but I would feel much more comfortable with my lug nuts catching the same amount of threads as the stock ones would.

Its really your call though, but for all that trouble I think I would just get a set of adapters, or run the T2 front swap and leave the drilling for the rear.

Offset will stay the same with the Respeed kit. I'm putting that kit on my car and redrilling the rear axles. I'll eventually go to a ford 8.8 rear end, but untill then redrilled axles should be fine.

Yes, the kit allows you to use second gen TII hubs and brakes on 84-85 spindles.

We also have a rear kit that puts the rear TII brakes on first gen. Availabilty and pricing will be posted in a few days. Just working up all the numbers currently.

5 lug rear axles will be offered but priced separate from the kit. This way a customer can choose a few directions to go. We will offer SE and non SE style axles in the 5 lug pattern. We are also looking at the logistics behind re-drilling customer axles. This may be trumped by a Do It Yourself drill jig. Not sure yet.

On a similar but not 100% relevant topic, we have finish component selection and design that will introduce the 4 piston FC caliper into the old school cars as well as early rx7 struts. This will also bring with it the option to keep the 110MM pattern. Although not as cost efficient as the current FC to FB brake swap it won't be to hard on the wallet.

I had thought about stocking yours

I realy never put much thought into spacers due to the many wheel choices the end user may have or come up with. Prob would not be a bad idea though.
