BlowThrough on 85-SE

Have a few questions for everyone as I go along here. Got an 85 SE with 155k original miles... I know I know the time is coming, she will be getting a Street Port rebuild when she bites it, speicaly seeings im going to boost her. What I have in store to put on her, a Garret T3/T4 hybird turbo connected to a Cartech manifold with a 2 1/2 downpipe which allows me to keep the 6 port actuators on, also have a Cartech Intercooler with piping. I am looking to keep the EFI system and first question is I am looking at getting the Cartech FMU #2025 which is boost dependent, but not quite sure on which Fuel pump that will handle the turbo set up. Also I have noticed looking around on the forum that peepz have SS braided lines for the Oil feed to the turbo. Where can you locate such long/small SS lines? I am wanting to start this post for small question s as I go seeings I am new to building up a turbo system and you can only read soo many forums seeings everyone goes about building a blowthrough differently, besides this might helps some others that want to keep their small peice of History looking original. I luv the SE for an SE. To Pop the hood and see that EFI sitting there with the original 6 port 13b. Letz face it the SE is what made Rx-7z a HIT! And has gone in record books. Well enough on the history lesson. :] LUV this SITE!!! Appreciate the info Guyz!

Keep r0tating,
MIke

Why are you wanting blowthrough when your car is MAF based?

Use a Mitsubishi Eclipse fuel pump, i don't see why it wouldn't work.

I'd be more worried about injectors considering there are only two and are 720cc as-is.

If i recall correctly, they were changed to 720cc toward middle of the '85 production run.

Reguardless, they're pretty big friggin' injectors.

Get Aeromotive or a Walbro pump. That should work what you are trying to do. Are you sure you want to go with a Hybrid turbo? Our cars can run straight T04's with no problems.

Since your car is FI, there is no need to talk blowthrough. There is only one way to do it on a FI and that is to go straight through the MAF and into the intake. No other way.

The MAF can't be placed between the turbo and intake, it has to be placed before the turbo (drawthrough, air is drawn through the sensors). Blowthrough would be MAP based, the sensor would be "blown through".

i think the air flow meter works better on the boost side, especially since the air density is different after the intercooler...
im wondering how fast this setup is ...
compared to blowthrough
im sure it gets better gas mileage though!!!!!

Right now your blow through set up will kick my a$$. But I think it should be pretty comparable once I get the additional injectors in and raise the boost!

Generally, EFI cars get better gas mileage than carb cars. I think I'm getting close to stck MPG depending how much I punch it.

Robert,

What's your MPG on that white car. I noticed you didn't have license plates!!

wow that must be nice!!

i dont have plates on the white car because i generally always drive over 100 mph, no joke.....sometimes i have to evade people so i find its better not to have plates on the car....i dont really know what the mileage is generally i put $20 a day...and you know how expensive the gas is these days!! all i know is its always on boost!!!!

I've never heard of putting the AFM in any place other than where it is factory.
