So detonation breakes apex seals! Ask me how I know! It lasted me 4000 miles. It was a fun 4000 miles though. When I rebuilt it I replaced everything but the apex seals. BAD MOVE!!! So I was getng on the freeway just filled up the gas tank. I was pulling through 2nd @ 9 psi slammed 3rd heard pop. let off the throttle kank, then no power and rough as hell. Sweet now I get to crack it back open put new apex seals in and port it some more!!! LOL!!! I'm a fuggin idiot... Oh here's the best part I have neen running Arco 87 octane with 2 storke cause I'm cheap and it had been fine. So I filled up with 89 and put in some MMO. and now it detonates. Lesson don't buy Citgo gas...

That sucks! What do you think it was, timing? Carb jetting? My car is running decent now, I'm not trying to pop my freshly rebuilt 12a. I'm at 7 psi right now, but I'd like to get it up to 12 psi eventually, maybe even higher.

A combination of Jetting and crappy fuel. I was told I could run 12 psi w/o and IC, but I think 10 was pushing it. I had my timing L 10*BTDC and T 2*BTDC. Locked dizzy. I don't know really. I know Adding 2 stroke and MMO will lower the octane. I think MMO must lower it more than the 2 stroke that I had been using. I usually run it 100:1. Oh well...
your timing was fine. it seems that the hesitation you were listing in the 3000 - 3400 area was probably a major lean spike. also cruising very very lean and heating up the manifold making it glow creates such an increase in egt's that it can wear the seals down. the intercooler was not the issue. i ran 16psi without an intercooler on my bone stock blow thru 12a. cooling and 93 octane are the main points... oh and good tuning which requires the use of a wideband
narrowband won't tell you anything.

I think I'm just going to by some alky from the Lowes and add it with 2 stroke every time I fill up as a safe measure to keep the octane up. Yea leassons learned now! Block is now bare ready to come out. I'll let you all know what it looks like when I rip it apart.
Were you premixing? I kept the 2 oil injection on the housings with my omp wired open. I think the constant oil is bringing the octane down. It worked fine when I was N/A but I think being boosted is another story.
Thanks, Ed

you guys might want to look in to ordering some Idemitsu. it's made for rotaries and you only mix half ounce/ gallon of fuel instead of 1:1 like 2stroke junk. good stuff, and burns clean. won't cover plugs.
