HI all, I found a rx7 85 GSL 90,000km. The car was beautiful inside and out but i notice that there was patchs in the wheel wells so i took out the bins to take a peak and it had hole on both sides that the original ower most hve tryed to patch himself but didnt know how to weld and just made a mess. And the guy that owns it know had it for years and never knew till today and wasnt very happy. Now how many of you have had to fix this and how hard was it? the hole arent that big like 4inch by 4inchs not to bad but wouldnt pass safety. They guy wants 2500Cnd. if i could fix it what should i offer. Oh yeah i know how to weld pretty good i work at a dealership. Thx for any help

hmm i bought my 83 GSL with 158000 km with 50000km on the rebuil engine and a perfect rust free body (arizona car brought to T.O) and i paid $1000Cnd.....i think he is overcharging u considering the rust holes....wat else is wrong with the car?

Nothing else is wrong with the car it rest checks out that is they only problem! I think i am going to offer like 1500 and get a "Safety" and fix it myself!

yea i have to also do my own safety cuz the ball joints were bad and lower control arm which all could have been fixed for 200 bucks but is now costing me around 800...plus i also need a new paint job...so if it's paint is ok and check all the mechanical stuff out if it's fine i guess 1500 - 1800 canadian should be fine

No we didnt lose are power yesterday. I was watch t.v and then all of a sudden the news just came on tell us about the power out in Canada and the States.
Yeah, i think i am going to weld it in myself. and get a "Safety"(i know a few ppl lol) so i am going to call the guy and take a good look and c how much i need to cut out and weld in. i think i can do it i have done a few amazing thing with welding.

I just did this repair last weekend on my 85 GSL, it had rust which I cleaned out to make two holes, about 2 inches x 4 inches, over each wheel, in the spot where the triangle shaped bracket is. There also was another spot above this one on the driver's side. I just cleaned up the rust, wire brushed inside and out pretty good, then put on some epoxy based resin I had left over from a bathtub job I did. Then, before the epoxy set, I laid in some pieces of sheet metal (from the inside) and set these in with short sheet metal screws (not real elegant, but they secured the metal much more tightly than my pop riveter did). Then I used some fiber glass bondo from the outside to fill and seal the holes, followed by primer and then spray on undercoat. I also found and cleaned up a few other small potential rust problems along the way. It all took less than a Saturday afternoon, it was cheap ($10 for the bondo, $5 for the undercoat) and I am confident the car is ready for the next 20 years. I took pictures along the way, will send these if anyone is interested.

Ya post the pics of the job that you did. I will also goto the guys house and take a couple picture so that all you can c and tell me what you think. there are a few rust bubbles on the outside of the fender. I think i can do it and make it look nice.

I will post these tomorrow from my office, which has much faster download speeds. So far I have not figured out how to post pictures within a thread, so if someone doesn't explain this to me by tomorrow morning, I will post the picks as a new thread under "repairing bin rust". My car also had "rust bubbles", but underneath the rust, after banging it out, were these 2 x 4 inch holes. As long as there is no structural damage, this epoxy/sheet metal fix should give you an excellent water proof repair that will last for years. It was actually fun to do, no welding, inexpensive and all in a day's work. Pics tomorrow.
