Best spring/shock combo?

I've searched a bit on the forum, but i'm wondering if anything else has popped up over the past year or so. I was looking at a set of RB springs and Tokico shocks, but that's adding up WAY to quickly. I'm looking for something inexpensive that will be an improvment over stock, while also lowering the car a bit. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also.. Anyone here good at aluminum fabbing? I have a nice set of wheels for my 7 that is missing '1' center cap. I can't find parts for these wheels anywhere, and would need someone to make me one.

That's a matter of opinion. Those, like me, that have really only had one set up are not valid. Though I will say that in most cases I love my set up, just stiff enough to ensure I don't have a willing passenger. With my set up all I can say is that I believe I drive it hard when I can, and I do mean hard, and I don't feel I'm really aproaching it's limits. So I would recomend it, but can't say really whats best. BTW don't be ashamed to buy low mile used stuff, I got my entire set up -SE stuff too for about $550, the only thing I needed was the Ebrake cables.

Tokico Illuminas are NOT inexpensive. They cost up to twice as much as the HP's. An inexpensive suggestion would be KYB shocks & struts.

As for aftermarket springs there are Eibachs, Racing Beat, Suspension Techniques, TMC, etc.

Shop around, start with www.shox.com

I went with the following and couln't be happier:

Suspension Tech Springs - Because they the closest to stock spring rate
Tokiko HP - Good price and well rated
P-S-T bushings
Inner / Outer tie rods replaced - Tightened up steering
Suspension Tech front and rear sway bars - yet to be installed
Idler and Pitman arms replacement - yet to be installed

I don't race, autox or drift...those who do might want a different setup...

I bought a set of Eibach's for $220 new, and then Koni fronts from eBay for $75 and Tokico Blues for the rear for $68 somewhere online. Tokico Blues for the front are fairly good and inexpensive also.

You can find other springs cheaper, but the Eibach's are good quality.

I got Illuminas and RB springs all way round. Now to help stiffen the chasis up I got upgraded sway bars front and rear. It's stiff I won't lie. But I love that feeling I love it a lot. I recommend it if you're looking for that stiff ride but with great maneuverability and overall radical ride.

Most aftermarket springs actually raise the hieght of the car, since the old ones sag so much. Going into a suspension swap looking for your car to be lower is the wrong attitude, do it for the handling upgrade. If you really want your car to be lower you can cut your stock springs but i don't recommend that at all since you will bottom out all the time...

These worth trying? They are pretty inexpensive:

i agree with you on this ... but just to add to what you said. cutting the springs by itself is not the problem - (although at their age and with springs being so relatively cheap, why much with stockers?) - it's when you cut and keep the same crappy struts and shocks on there that you run into problems. you have to increase the damping rates with the increased spring rates.
