Best Rebuild Kit for the buck?
So I was talking to a guy in one of my classes who owns a FC and is currently rebuilding his 13B, nicely painted and all... which made me want to tear down my S4 engine and detail it and all that jazz.
I figured that if I am going to tear this sucker down, might as well just replace everything.
So which rebuild kit is best?
Atkins sells one for under a grand, but the guy I was talking to said their kit looks shoddy and to just get the Mazdatrix set...
Which with most of the goods is close to $1500...
Anyone have any experience with using either kit?

I got atkins complete rebuild, and I am VERY happy with the kit, and their customer service.
**However, I have heard concerns from various sources about their apex seals.
Alot of people prefer MAZDA apex seals vs atkins.
Otherwise, they have largely stock parts of good improvements like third gen seals and springs and stuff.
Again, I am very happy with the kit I got, granted i only just completed break in period...

because if its a good kit that's a roughly 500 dollar savings for me, and I'm not going to be suping up this engine just yet...

Personally, I like to piece together a kit based on what you need. For instance, the side seals typically receive almost no wear and are usually well within spec.
I like OEM for the apex seals, but there is nothing wrong with the Atkins seals.
I would take a look at the classifieds and maybe hit ebay. Sometimes you will find people selling new OEM parts at a big discount (were going to rebuild, but never got around to it, totalled their car, etc.). Then get whatever is left from Mazdatrix, Atkins, etc. (springs, gaskets, o-rings, ... ).

iirc, atkins sells different kits. theres kit A, B, C maybe a D but each one has the same as previous except a little more.
here is the same seller as mentioned above: http://cgi.ebay.com/MAZDA-12A-ENGINE...713.m153.l1262
i bought a few things from them and had no problems with shipping overseas. i even called them and talked to somebody with an australian accent for the first time to make sure my order was placed correctly. i did not buy a rebuild kit but the guy tried to convince me to order a few of these kits since the dollar exchange rate is pretty nice in our favor. almost 50% off prices in the states so i could flip these over here but that was not in my interest. and they tell me they only use genuine mazda parts.
i bought my rebuild kit for a nice price from a forum member that was about $540 and came with everything similar to racing beat (full rebuild kit) plus rotor and main bearings.
good luck in your quest for parts that are the best bang for the buck to you
