best engine degreaser?

alright you clean engine guys, hahaha what's the best/safest way for me to clean mycarbeurator before i put it back on? i know there's "carb cleaner" but that **** makes me think i'm gonna wear out the gaskets possibly. should i use a good engine degreaser? i'd like to spray my block down too.

Why is your carb off if youaren't replacing the gaskets anyway?

For the block, I used the self wask car wash and the 1,500 psi presure sprayer. Couldn't get teh nooks and crannies but where I could there isn't a spot of grease!!

lol, well i'm not rebuilding the carb. i got another one off a running rx7. i tried rebuilding my old one and i failed somehow. so i'm just taking the easier route. when i get it running again i might take the car down the the self wash thing too and try that. they have an engine cleaning solution you can choose. woot!

Castrol (I think) Makes a product called supper clean. It seems to work well as a multi purpos cleaner. It degreases and removes grime in gerneral.

Yeah, Ive heard good things about the Castrol stuff in the purple bottle, but it says to use caution around aluminum, so I didnt use it due to my aluminum rotor housings. Ive used Oil Eater and just any old generic engine degresers though. Theyre cheap and you can get more for your money. I get the ones that you spray on while the engine is "warm", they seem to be the best for me so far. The grease is runny and oozy when hot, so the cleaner works well.

for the best kept secret... go to the dollar store and buy some oven cleaner--spray it on and let it sit for a minute or two. works like a champ. didn't believe it til i saw it in action on my transmission while i had it out. recently did it on my GSL-SE that i bought.....i can now see that the strut towers are the same color as the outside

Warning on Castrol degreaser- My friend and I used it on several old tractors and it totally discolored and streaked the paint..Granted the paint is not clearcoated like an auto but I think the engine bay for most autos is NOT as protected as the exterior skin..You may want check spot first and see if it will damage automotive paint... We went back to using Easy-Off oven cleaner.
