Best bang for my buck? Advice?

Hey guys, i need some advice. I've got an 85 Rx-7 with a 12 a in it. I just raced a civic, and it actually beat me off the line and i had to chase it down. Im wondering what would be the best bang for my buck, as far as performance goes, cause I want my 7 to beat it off the line too. Im open to any suggestions...So far, the car has accel race wires, K&N air filter, and a sebring exhaust. What should be next? I still have to pass one more emissions check. Any advice would be helpful.

PS, i have another 12a, and a N/A 13B available (with out the electrical stuff) But my buddy is also selling his stand-alone fuel management system. Should i perhaps go that way?

I'm a noob when it comes to this, but I would think that you should swap in the 13b...but then again you might have to change your/get a computer, fuel system, intake, and exhaust.

An Atkins Supercharger has been described as the best bang for the buck. I'd tend to agree, if you've got like 2k laying around.

besat bang for the buck without swapping engines is to swap exhausts - the Racing Beat full exhaust system (header, presilencer, power pulse muffler) can and will add 20-25hp to your car.

For cornering, best bang is a thick front swaybar with poly bushings.

To be quicker off the line, you have to have more torque. Not a strong suit for the rotary engine. But winning is determined at the finish line. NOS is truely the best bang for the buck. Short of that, there are many combinations of parts and mods you could do from getting rid of the spare tire, jack and extra weight, to a supercharger, turbo charger or dropping a short block chevy 350 bored 30 over into your car. But for the best $ to horsepower ratio, Nitrous Oxide will do it. Don't fear the laughing gas. I know people say its bad for rotaries, or it will blow you up, but think about it, when you run a turbo, you are forcing more air into the intake so you can burn more gas. When you run NO2 (1 nitrogen molecule and 2 oxygen molecules) you are introducing more air into the system for the same purpose. The oxygen and nitrogen seperate when they heat up and that extra oxygen lets you burn extra fuel. Now you have to have the proper fuel system and spark timing to go with it, or yes, you will blow something, but that is no different on piston engine. Manntis, the whole time I've been typing this, I was looking at that little kid getting knocked over by the ball. Its starting to get disturbing.

A 13b (6 port efi) and stand alone ecu would be the way to go... 13b with exhaust and stand alone ecu should put out around 200hp

For a 6th of what that would cost, you could have 250 HP...Project84 is right, there IS NO BETTER BANG FOR THE BUCK than nitrous...especially if you troll eBay and piecemeal the hard parts. Just get the solenoids and jets new and you'll be spanking 4thgen Camaros...

Also, to help you get off the line better, a limited slip rear end with a 4.3 gear ratio will help too. That gear ratio will not be as good when cruising on the highway, but if you are seriously into racing, it will be beneficial.

Im not sure what im going to do, i dont have enough money for the stand alone system, or the nitrous rite now. At the same time im seriously reconsidring my notions about racing. Ive come to realize street racing is dumb, and i will no longer perticipate in it. Untill i start going to the track on a regular basis, i think im going to leave the car for now. Thanks for your help guys.

ps, the guy who owned the car before me installed a positrack in it.

Maybe he meant a gsl or gsl-se limited slip? yeah, street racing is dumb, but every once in a while i'll be out in the middle of nowhere on a 4 lane highway with a green neon with a huge wing behind me that floors it past me, it's hard to resist.

The guy i bought the car off said it was a positrack, and my mechanic agreed. Judging by the way it spun out in the rain im inclined to believe it too. I recovered it tho, no damage to the rex,

It's a limited slip... limited slip and chevy posi/fords trac-loc are basically the same thing, just different companys take different names for their version of the product. Read what's on the pumpkin... there should be a sticker.

actually now that i think about it (it was a year ago and the guy had a thick accent) I think he may have said something about a second gen, so maybe its a limited slip differential from a second gen? im not sure, but ill find out.

Can you say that again? but it probably isn't from a 2nd gen either, they had independant rear suspension. but as for the best bang for your buck, i made a thread about this around the time i first became a member, do a search for "best mod for the money" or something similar to that, there's about 4 pages of discussion on what people think the best upgrade for the cheapest price.
