Well last night I ran seafoam through it. I let the tank run down to E but not out. Then I put HEET in and filled up the tank. Now this morning driving to work I noticed it heat up to the maximum within "safe" conditions. Last night before putting the HEET in after running the seafoam is warmed up to the middle of the temp gaugae for a bit and then settled back at 1/4th like usual. This morning though as I was driving and it heated up to the last notch before the red zone. The motor was running fine. Oil was fine and so was anti-freeze. There are no leaks either it seems in any of the hoses.
Anyone else notice HEET literally HEATING their engine?

I did notice when the seafoam was running it was running hotter I am assuming because of what seafoam is and what it was doing so I suspect that the bit of seafoam left and then HEET on top of that going this morning while driving was heating up pretty good. The gauge moved down as I drove. Even when stopped. It was getting cooler.

perhaps the chemicals burn hotter in HEET and seafoam and make the exhaust super hot and in turn, heating your engine up. i'd check operation of the thermostat and check belt tension as a precaution. also, make sure your radiator hoses aren't too soft or they'll collapse from the "suction" caused by the water pump, also heating your engine up.

I'm going to check the thermostat when I get home and replace it anyway since it has sat for so long. I'm also going to replace the hoses and flush the cooling system and refill it. I don't want to take any chances with this.

I think after replacing those things I will know for sure that it's the chemical reaction heating the engine. I noticed too if I reved higher the temp gauge would go higher. When stopped it would cool down which is opposite of the norm. Usually when you accellerate it will coo and then heat when you sit. So I think as the fuel and level of mixture of heet and seafoam with the gas increased it got hotter and hotter.

Once these things are replaced and I burn through this tank of gas it will be perfectly fine. Right now I'm just going to drive it gently and not rev very high. Tonight I'll replace those things and drive it gently till this tank of gas is gone and the stuff is out of the system.

Thing handled like a champ on the way home in the heavy snow we just got and I didn't have a problem with heat at all. Warmed up nicely and it was blowing hot air when I ran the defroster. This morning it wouldn't get hot. No problems at all. It must have just been burning off the remnants of the seafoam or the seafoam has mixed better with the gas now and that's why it was running hot this morning under the stress of driving, not idling like it was when I ran the seafoam..

I just started my girl this morning, was like maybe 10*F out at most. Took a moment but I got her to go and then she ran fine. It just takes a little persistence, and holding the throttle wide open (don't have a choke).

Yea, since my tune-up she has had no problems getting going in low temps. Today as well she wamred up nicely and didn't have any heat issues. I think the T-stat may have been frozen shut. I flushed the radiator last night and put brand new fluid in. I didn't get a chance, due to the inclement weather to go buy a new t-stat so that may be this weekend that I do hoses, t-stat, and some other little things.

Prior to the winter I removed the dellorto carb and installed std nikki on my 12a. Did this for improved drivability and gas milage.
I drove it home from work last Friday after sitting since there since Monday. With the Nikki carb and full choke it starts after a continuous 10 seconds of cranking. Right before it starts it will backfire through the exhaust a few times. Starts better with the Dellorto.

I left it home on Monday because I was unsure whether the coolant had sufficient antifreeze concentration and didn't want it to freeze.
Fortunately I get a work vehicle during the week so the Rex will stay in my garage until these tempuratures rise.
