Cool Battery Cables, starter

I got an 82 rx7 from my stepdad a while back its been sitting a few years. I put a battery in it and tried starting it, it clicked kept doing it, then I smelled smoke, a few days later I opened up the hood and checked it out and the battery cable wasnt even connected to the starter anymore. Can I re-attach it, like cut off the end and re-use it or do I have to buy a new one, and do I require a special battery cable for the rx7?

You waited a couple of days to see why there was smoke?

Replace it.
then find out what is stuck.

i'm with the above. replace the cable. chances are, if its fried at the end, there may be internal damage to the cable itself. if there is, continuity will be lost and you will begin frying other things. you can make the cable yourself, which is what i usually do or you can go to www.mazdatrix.com and order a new one.

Don't try to re-use the old cable: it's aluminium and you'll not get a good connection. get a suitable length cable with suitable terminals from an autostore, or get it at mazdatrix.com

I've noticed the price is well over 100 dollars if I were to order the cable, that seems like much, how would i go about making my own, I'd much rather travel over to canadian tire and make er myself

Might be best if you go to an audio shop and buy some 4 guage wire from them and build it. Usually have less internal resistance
