Bad Vibrations

Well i have talked to some pople about what would cause vibrations. well it is getting worse. as apposed to me thinking to was the same. I just took a long trip of about 250 miles. and now it seems alot worse. At first, i was told that it could be the transmission mount. well i got under the car today and it seems that the transmission will not move up or down with just my weight. but the car don't vibrate at idle.

I even think that i have written about this before but i'm not sure. I also wiggled the universial mounts and i also know from past experances that they can also cause vibrations. the rear was able to be moved back and forth and up and down on each of the axis of the joint. I was told that the wiggleing was bad. so i ordered universial joints today ...

Does this sound right to yall that have experance with this. I don't mind buying a transmission mount if i have to just want to make sure that i'm on the right path with this.

Do the universals first then drive it, if that fixes it your good, but dont keep doing things until you eliminate this problem.

So theres lay in the universal joints? That is bad. Also check the driveshaft mounting bolts. What year is the car, some of them do not have replaceable u-joints.

Its an 83... i have ordered them from rockauto.com. only place that i seem to be able to get them. so i figured that i would give them a shot. there is some play in them not a large amount but i know a little turns into alot. I don't really know though

I can rev the motor in nutrual and i get a heart beat pulse. at idle i don't feel much... but also while going down the road at 40 i can let off the gas no no vibrations at all. then with just a little bit of gas major vibrations... any load at all gives me vibrations. my bro said it could be something with the rotors.. but idk.

guess start with what i know and go from there.

Your description in the post above pretty much nails it as a drive shaft issue. Keep us posted on how those ujoints work out for you.

Well found out today that i have to have my driveshaft redone. can't just replace the U-Joints. Have to have the shaft completely redone. I hope this works .. but after all one of the things that holds the join in the "cup" or what ever was half way busted. joy to me. and to top it off the muffler fell off last night... so guess there is more money there. I should shot rockauto club for not knowing...

Ok the vibrations are gone. well the really bad ones are any ways. the joint had worn though the cup and was beating into the yoke. but the new driveshaft fixed that right up. cost 300$.

the exaust was done the next day just to get it fixed was 100$. not bad. fixed all my exaust leaks and hung it back up.

I still think that i could use a motor mount and trainy mount .. but not in a hurry for them now as i can't feel the car very much at all.

If you're replacing the mounts consider poly or aluminum, they will reduce the engine twisting in the frame, but they will bring more vibration into the chassis.
