Bad Transmssion mount...?

After using the search for some info on transmission mounts I was brought to this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/poly-motor-mounts-649964/ but since the title is for motor mounts I decided to start a new thread.

I've come to the conclusion that maybe I'm internet illiterate or I just do not have the patience to find poly / aftermarket tranns mount on MAZDASPEED's site...??? I also tried to contact BANZAI with no luck either, yet... so I took Jeff's advice about going with the OEM mount and stopped at the MAZDA dealer and ordered myself a trannns mount.

What led me to the topic of trannsmission mounts was b/c when I would sit idle, I would hear a shaking noise coming from the tranns tunnel, so I jacked the car up to inspect and the mount is shot for sure. When I would grab the tailend and shake / move it around I hear the same exact noise.

My question is this... there are also two bushings at each end of the cross member, but when I treid to order them along with the trannmission mount the dealer said they were pressed in and could only be ordered by ordering the entire member... which is no lonnger avaliable. Do these bushings go bad also....? And can they be changed...??

The end rubbers are kinda redundant, probably just for noise absorbtion.

Even if they are removed, there is still enough rubber flex in the main mount to handle drivetrain torque. You could replace the outers with solid pieces if they are wasted and still be fine.

When the rubber mount on my FC went out, it's a single in the middle instead of 2 like the FBs, I cut the center part of the rubber out and replaced it with and old poly bushing from a sway bar end link. It might be possible to do with the 1st gen mount. I did notice more engine/driveline vibration was transfered to the cabin though.

My 1stgen crossmember for a TurboII tranns (currently not in the car) :

I didn't actually remove the crossmember yet, (mount is on order) but the outter bushings didn't look so good.

Ohhh, another thing is I forgot, I had my girlfriend call to see if the dealer had the mount and bushings in stock.. and she called a different MAZDA dealer then where I already placed my order for the mount... They told her they do have the outter bushings in stock & they are $31 bucks each.... go figure.

You could also check a salvage yard. You never know what parts are left on the crashed 7's. I find all kinds of stuff.
