GA Backfiring under deacceleration

I have a 12a 85. When I driving I release the accelerator and it detonates sometimes. Does anyone have this problem?

Yes, detonation is a very different and much more serious problem. As others have said, exhaust leaks and/or running too rich are usually the cause.

wats wrong with backfiring on decceleration?!?! sounds awesome and looks great at night-time!! and no doesnt damage anything, its just unburnt fuel going thru the motor and exploding in the exhaust system. mine used to have a constant flame for about 5-10 secs, looked great at night time, had a tune since and dont do it any more was running waaaaay too rich!

Backfiring, while it may not be horrible for your engine, is a good indicator that your engine isn't running properly. Running rich robs the car of power and wastes fuel. Most people don't care that much, but with the fuel prices now, every little bit helps.
