Angry Backfire?

Well...my car is not registered or insured because i won't be driving it till it's completely done...which isn't anytime soon....so I decided to turn on the car today and I left it on for a while. Then...I revved the engine to about 4k and let go of the gas, it backfired. Aslo...when i turn the car off...right after the engine completely stops running, it backfires. Like 'POP!" and I want to know if backfire is a bad sign?

Thanks

don't worry the pops after shut down is normal as well. It just tells me you have a header and pretty much free flowing exhaust. It's one loud pop like 5 seconds or so after shut down right?

EDIT just read your other post, nm on the headers haha. prolly just a leak somewhere.

To throw more ice on your party...your ok, my lil bug backfires decelerating and I got my first pop after 3 seconds or so of having the car turned off. I just laughed my azz off and said, hmmmmmm ran great, cant complain! I wish our racetrack was open....I wanna take her down the track, even tho Im kinda scared of the car when letting off the gas passed like 60-70 mph...lol...dunno why my bug swayes so much.

does this mean if you pull off the deceleration/backfiring solenoids and associated parts in the rats nest there will not be any adverse effects? will this affect emissions? i need to be able pass ohio emissions testing, but would like to simplify things as this is going to be a csp autocross car.

Mine used to backfire until the engine was warm, and sometimes it would backfire when I turned it off. Then I put on the Racing Beat header and the backfires went away. I haven't heard one since. Strangely this is contrary to what most people say. Maybe messed something up in the carb when I installed the header. Could I have done something to lean out the mixture?
