"B" Pillar Speakers...Someone Wanted to See Them
"B" Pillar Speakers...Someone Wanted to See Them
I know this is probably just gonna get moved, but I figure that whoever it was that wanted to see them may be here, and not in the Audio forum. Anyway, theyre arent exactly IN the B pillars, but what else would I call it? The sound is actually 100% better here, I just got in it again, and its SO much more balanced (you can hear both sides at the same time in both seats). Plus, you dont have to crank it up to hear it (but its good when you do
). When I put ones like this in my 83, it will set the bass to the back of my sound stage where its supposed to be because my sub box is where the storage bins were, so it should sound ok
. Im also thinking of putting two more 6.5" in the rear where the stock are just for the "ooh-aah" factor. The speakers are either Infinity Kappas or References, I cant remember. But "Pink Floyd - Money" sure does vibrate the seat with the bass guitar and sounds AWESOME with NO distortion
.

PS - I didnt install them, dont ask me how to do it, they were like that when we bought it. Im gonna figure it out sooner or later cause I want them in my 83 cause they sounds so good there.

That was me..
Thanks.
I like that location. Not too close to the ears.
My plan is:
I was going to make a Triangle shaped rectangle box with 2 6.5's on each side facing forward, and a Sealed 10 in the middle firing rearward.
I will draw it on the computer and post it for people to see what I mean.
Got a Pic of your Sub in the storage Bin?
Thanks.

Triangle shaped rectangle box
. Just kidding, I think I know what you mean. Also, for pics of the subs in the storage bins, look up the increadibly long thread "Just Finished Designing My Sub Box Today"...It has pics, but I will post one here, the onty thing Ive done to it since was I finished the lid, and carpeted the amp box. I got this 83 now, so instead of putting it in the 85, its going in this 83. I have to buy an engine for the 83 before I can finish the stereo stuff though

Hey,
Not Bad
Do the seats go forward/recline just like when the
factory Bins where there?
That's the original place I wanted to put by Sub, but I don't want it to fire up.
The other reason is I want to keep the bins and mount a battery/Amp in them

Aperodic Aperodic Aperodic!
GO APERODIC the chamber is slightly larger than the sub and is made of fibreglass. My system (2 jl 10W0's and a kenwood amp weighs 27 punds total, after removing the factory subs and the factory deadening material (and replacing with dynomat) will be 1 pound under what the car WAS with the stock system. Plus with the aperodic chambers, you can place the subs anyhere you want.
cheers'

What do ya Think?
It will be in front of the rear wheel wells.
this way the sound is in great stereo, with the Sub firing towards the rear (like it should be).
By the way, the front speakers would be components.
Also, this way, I don't have to Rape the interior, and can easily remove it if need be.

It sounds good to me, the only thing I can think of is are you are gonna run the components in ther own seperate space? Like sealed of from the sub box area so the air movement from the sub doesnt disrupt the comp speakers? I dont know if this is even possible, but who knows. I would seal them off just to be safe. Also, I cant tell from the drawing, will the amp be surface mounted or recessed like mine? If its recessed, dont forget to take the sub into accound so that the back of the sub doesnt hit the amp. Other than that, im sure that with a design like that you'll have plenty of room if youre running a sealed or ported box as far as volume goes. Have fun and take plenty of pictures of it along the way

PS - The speakers I have in the -SE are Infinity Reference speakers (see sig), theyre amazing. I just decided that theyre going in all 4 (6?) corners of the 83 when she gets her stereo
. All 6.5" too, thats how much I like them

It's Good, but where's the Sub?
And yes, as far as my design goes, the Components would be seperated from the sealed Sub. The amp would not be recessed (too much trouble).

Yeah, if he had sent the whole article you would know that the subs are under the carpet in the back
. I read that and considered it as my design, but it took up too much room, weighed too much, and brought the "storage" space too high to the hatch, so what little stuff I put back there (duffle bag) wouldnt fit anymore. But if you dont care about all that, its a great idea. Nice work too, it looks great.
