ay a lost

pk so as most of you know i got an 83gsl with 174xxx miles on it for 280 $. so the car did not run so i took the old carb off and rats nest and put on a rebl carb fro a friend not i can not get it to idle lower than 2000 rpms if i set it to i will die. and it pulses at 2000 rpms so i dont know what to do any more ist an auto so i dont want to **** up the tranns puting it in to drive so any help would be cool thanks

First, look for a vacuum leak.

Next, adjust idle mixture.

Last, check and adjust timing as needed.

i can not find any more vac leaks and the timeing is dead on and i think my friend got the idle mixture as good as he could

lol when i put iin to drive it will hold the idle at about 1300 rpms soon as i put it back in to park the idle goes back up to 2000 rpms .

start the 7 then spray some carb cleaner around the intake, carb and see if the idle changes. It still sounds like a vac leak.

But you just said when engaged it will idle at 1300 rpms...

Anyways, being as it is that 2k and less is the domain of the carb's idle circuit, it's gotta be a vac leak messing it up. Or the idle mix screw is damaged.

Timing is not dead on at 2k rpm. At that rpm, vac advance has maxed out and the dizzy is into mechanical advance. Trust me, you a vac leak. You say it's an auto, then it has a vacuum modulator and hose coming off the tranny, did you check that?

i saw the hose that come off the intake and then down to the trans but have not looked at the spot it hookes to at the trans. last night blwfly got it down to 1200 rpms and two day it would not run it had to be 2000 or more

Do a compression test. If below about 70, it will not idle below 1200 rpm.
